The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) plays a fundamental role in Kenya’s criminal justice system. Guided by Section 13 (2) of the ODPP Act No. 2 of 2013, the institution has the authority to appoint, control, and supervise its staff in pursuit of its mission: to serve justice through fair, impartial, and expeditious prosecution of criminal cases.

To support this mission, the ODPP invites applications from competent, committed, and highly motivated individuals to fill various vacancies. These positions span legal, administrative, human resource, and communication functions.

Available Positions and Responsibilities

Secretary, Prosecution Services

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate high-level legal policy development and execution within the ODPP.
  • Provide strategic direction on matters of national prosecution and legal priorities.
  • Advise the Director of Public Prosecutions on policy, legal, and administrative matters.
  • Ensure effective supervision and coordination of prosecution services countrywide.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of prosecution policies and reforms.
  • Oversee inter-agency collaboration with judicial and law enforcement bodies.
  • Guide the development of operational strategies in line with constitutional mandates.
  • Represent the ODPP in national and international forums on criminal justice.

Assistant Director, Human Resource Development

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement staff development and training programs.
  • Conduct needs assessments to determine institutional training requirements.
  • Develop capacity-building frameworks aligned with ODPP strategic goals.
  • Coordinate leadership, mentorship, and coaching initiatives.
  • Monitor and evaluate employee performance development programs.
  • Prepare and manage annual training and development budgets.
  • Collaborate with external training institutions and consultants.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Assistant Director, Human Resource Management

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures across ODPP offices.
  • Oversee recruitment, selection, and onboarding processes.
  • Coordinate staff deployment, promotions, and transfers.
  • Supervise performance appraisal systems and provide HR analytics.
  • Handle disciplinary procedures, grievance resolution, and labor relations.
  • Maintain comprehensive HR records and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Advise management on HR strategies, legal frameworks, and staffing trends.

Principal Human Resource Management Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily HR operations including staff induction and orientation.
  • Assist in the implementation of HR strategic plans and policies.
  • Coordinate employee benefits, leave management, and welfare programs.
  • Maintain personnel records and manage employee databases.
  • Implement succession planning and career progression structures.
  • Prepare HR reports and analyze workforce trends.
  • Provide HR advisory services to departmental managers.
  • Support policy reviews to align HR practices with best standards.

Principal Public Affairs & Corporate Communication Officer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement communication strategies that enhance ODPP visibility.
  • Coordinate media relations and manage ODPP’s public image.
  • Prepare press statements, official speeches, and public briefings.
  • Manage ODPP’s digital platforms including websites and social media.
  • Organize corporate events, outreach programs, and public forums.
  • Monitor media coverage and provide strategic communication insights.
  • Ensure consistency in ODPP branding, messaging, and public materials.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to promote institutional values.

Administration Officer I

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate general administrative operations within the ODPP.
  • Manage office logistics including procurement, fleet, and asset oversight.
  • Supervise office assistants and administrative support staff.
  • Monitor office supplies, equipment maintenance, and utilities.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate internal communication and operational coordination.

Prosecution Counsel II

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent the ODPP in criminal proceedings in various courts.
  • Draft charge sheets, legal briefs, affidavits, and submissions.
  • Offer legal guidance to investigators during case preparation.
  • Analyze evidence and make recommendations for prosecution.
  • Participate in plea bargaining, bail hearings, and legal negotiations.
  • Keep accurate records of court proceedings and judgments.
  • Liaise with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement officers.
  • Attend legal training and maintain up-to-date knowledge of statutes.

Research Officer II

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct legal research and present findings to support prosecution.
  • Analyze policies, laws, and court decisions for internal review.
  • Develop background papers, briefs, and legal opinion summaries.
  • Support research on emerging trends in criminal justice.
  • Maintain a database of legal publications and knowledge materials.
  • Assist in drafting policies, manuals, and institutional guidelines.

  • Participate in knowledge-sharing forums and benchmarking missions.

Personal Secretary II

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the office diary and appointment schedules.
  • Receive, file, and dispatch official correspondence.
  • Draft letters, memos, and meeting minutes as required.
  • Organize official meetings, travel plans, and logistics.
  • Maintain confidentiality of official communications and records.
  • Support filing systems for records and communications.
  • Ensure availability of stationery and office supplies for executives.
  • Coordinate communication between senior officers and departments.

Clerical Officer II

Key Responsibilities:

  • File documents and maintain orderly office records.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing mail and distribute them appropriately.
  • Enter and retrieve data from office information systems.
  • Prepare simple reports and assist in compiling data for analysis.
  • Support finance, procurement, and registry functions.
  • Assist in routine stock-taking and inventory updates.
  • Operate office equipment including photocopiers and scanners.
  • Maintain filing systems and perform other office support duties.

Prosecution Clerk IV

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update court diaries for assigned prosecution officers.
  • Organize and retrieve case files and relevant documentation.
  • Prepare cause lists, witness schedules, and exhibit registers.
  • Assist prosecution teams with case file documentation.
  • Deliver legal documents to courts and relevant agencies.
  • Support the preparation and service of legal notices and summons.
  • Monitor case progress and update tracking systems accordingly.
  • File certified documents and assist during court sessions.
