Key Responsibilities of Adjunct Faculty
Appointed adjunct faculty members will be expected to perform the following functions:
- Deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences at undergraduate and postgraduate levels through well-prepared content and engaging delivery.
- Administer and mark continuous assessment tests (CATs), mid-semester and end-of-semester examinations.
- Guide postgraduate students through research proposal development, supervision, and thesis writing.
- Engage in research activities, prepare grant proposals, and participate in scholarly publishing.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance using the Academic Management System.
- Participate in academic and administrative duties within their department or faculty as assigned, including committee work and academic leadership roles.
- Ensure curriculum relevance and quality through regular reviews and updates.
- Foster linkages with internal and external stakeholders for academic, research and professional collaboration.
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for appointment, applicants must meet the following academic and professional criteria:
Option 1:
- PhD in the relevant area of specialization from an accredited institution
- At least three (3) years of teaching and research experience in a university
- Registered with a relevant professional body (where applicable)
- Industry experience will be an added advantage
Option 2:
- Master’s degree in the relevant area from a recognized/accredited university
- At least three years of university-level teaching and research experience
- Currently registered for a PhD in the relevant field
- Registered with a professional body (where applicable)
- Industry experience will be an added advantage
Terms of Engagement
- Successful candidates will be appointed on a contract basis.
- The remuneration package is competitive.
- Adjunct faculty will be retained in the MKU database for up to six (6) years based on satisfactory performance.

- Adjunct faculty currently engaged by MKU who wish to continue must also submit their applications afresh.
