About the Role

The Marketing and Communications Officer plays a pivotal role within AmIU’s Advancement Division. This role is responsible for enhancing the visibility of the university, promoting its academic offerings, and positioning AmIU as a leader in health sciences education. The successful candidate will be a creative strategist with the ability to design and execute integrated marketing and communications campaigns that resonate with diverse audiences, including prospective students, academic partners, donors, and the general public.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to create compelling content, engage stakeholders through digital and traditional platforms, and manage the university’s brand identity consistently across all communications channels. This role not only supports recruitment and outreach efforts but also strengthens institutional storytelling and public relations to position AmIU as a thought leader in African and global health education.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Strategic Campaign Development and Implementation
    • Design and execute high-impact marketing campaigns to promote AmIU’s academic programmes, research initiatives, and community engagement efforts.
    • Collaborate across departments to align campaigns with the university’s strategic goals and enrollment objectives.
    • Continuously innovate communication strategies to expand AmIU’s reach in local, regional, and international markets.
  2. Brand Management and Identity Stewardship
    • Ensure consistency in messaging and visual identity across all internal and external communications.
    • Protect and strengthen the AmIU brand by maintaining high-quality content and design standards in all materials.
    • Develop and enforce brand guidelines across print and digital platforms.
  3. Digital Marketing and Web Presence
    • Lead digital marketing initiatives, including search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), social media strategy, and website content management.
    • Utilize Google Analytics and other tools to monitor traffic and assess the effectiveness of digital campaigns.
    • Oversee email marketing campaigns and optimize digital content to improve engagement and conversion.
  4. Content Creation and Storytelling
    • Create compelling marketing collateral such as brochures, newsletters, promotional videos, and PowerPoint presentations.
    • Manage content creation using tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and similar platforms.
    • Develop human-interest stories and impact narratives that showcase AmIU’s contributions to health development.
  5. Student Recruitment Support
    • Work closely with the Academic Affairs and Admissions departments to implement targeted campaigns that attract prospective students.
    • Highlight the university’s unique offerings and success stories to prospective learners across Africa and globally.
    • Tailor recruitment messaging for different audience segments, including working professionals, international students, and CPD candidates.
  6. Media and Public Relations
    • Build and sustain relationships with media houses, journalists, influencers, and public stakeholders to amplify AmIU’s reach.
    • Craft press releases, coordinate interviews, and monitor media coverage.
    • Respond proactively to public relations issues and opportunities to safeguard the university’s reputation.
  7. Event Promotion and Coordination
    • Promote academic conferences, seminars, webinars, graduations, and public lectures to internal and external stakeholders.
    • Develop communication strategies to support event success and visibility.
    • Ensure branding and message alignment at all university-sponsored events.
  8. Stakeholder Engagement and Outreach
    • Strengthen AmIU’s relationships with partners, donors, alumni, and governmental bodies through targeted communication.
    • Support institutional fundraising and development efforts by showcasing the university’s impact.
    • Create customized content for different stakeholder groups based on their interests and engagement levels.
  9. Performance Monitoring and Reporting
    • Track the effectiveness of marketing and communication efforts using data-driven approaches.
    • Regularly report on key performance indicators, providing recommendations for future improvement.
    • Stay updated with global and regional communication trends in higher education and health.
  10. Global Positioning of AmIU
    • Contribute to positioning AmIU as a premier Pan-African university in the health sciences domain.
    • Develop messaging that highlights AmIU’s commitment to Africa-focused development and health innovation.
    • Leverage international platforms and opportunities to raise AmIU’s profile globally.

Candidate Profile

AmIU is looking for a motivated professional with strong technical, interpersonal, and storytelling skills. A suitable candidate will demonstrate experience in marketing, branding, and communications, preferably in the education, development, or corporate sectors. The ideal individual should be adept at both strategy formulation and hands-on implementation, capable of working independently and collaboratively.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience in marketing, branding, public relations, or digital communications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital marketing including SEO/SEM, analytics tools, social media management, and email campaigns.
  • Advanced content creation skills including copywriting, graphic design, and multimedia development.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and related content creation platforms.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in multicultural or multilingual environments is highly desirable.
  • Passion for higher education, health sciences, and community development.
  • Fluency in Swahili, French, Portuguese, or other African languages is an added advantage.
