Key Purpose of the Account Developer Role
The primary responsibility of the Account Developer is to identify, develop, and implement new business opportunities that will contribute to increased profitability and long-term growth. This will be achieved while maintaining superior trade execution and consistently delivering exceptional customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and maintaining strong business relationships with customers, promoting Coca-Cola products, optimising asset usage, and executing market strategies in alignment with the company’s commercial objectives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Identifying and Implementing New Business Opportunities
- Regularly visit prospective dealers to evaluate and establish new business opportunities using established assessment criteria.
- Conduct performance monitoring of new dealers during trial periods to ensure expected profitability levels are achieved.
- Develop and implement new business within budgetary guidelines and regulatory frameworks.
- Negotiate agreements and contracts aligned with customer needs and company policies.
2. Optimising Customer Service and Building Long-Term Relationships
- Achieve defined customer service performance targets to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date customer master file.
- Keep customers informed of new products, merchandise standards, promotional activities, and any other business development initiatives.
- Address and resolve queries, issues, and complaints in a courteous, professional, and timely manner.
3. Formulating Account Plans
- Develop comprehensive annual account plans based on sales projections, equipment placement, market trends, competition, and seasonal fluctuations.
- Understand the specific business models of customer outlets and align them with relevant Coca-Cola brand strategies.
- Communicate account plans effectively with the channel management team, and ensure joint implementation of approved recommendations.
- Conduct formal presentations of account plans to customers to ensure alignment and buy-in.
- Review and adjust product lines to enhance profitability, eliminating underperforming items.
4. Managing and Maintaining Company Assets
- Ensure that all equipment contracts are accurately filled out and signed by relevant parties.
- Oversee the weekly maintenance and optimal utilization of coolers, vehicles, and other equipment.
- Maximise return on investment through strategic placement of equipment.
- Monitor the sales-to-cooler-size ratio and take corrective action on non-conformance in line with company policies.
- Provide basic maintenance training to dealers for equipment handling.
5. Executing Outlets According to Commercial Strategy
- Accurately complete and submit promotional agreements to relevant channel managers.
- Ensure the execution of promotions follows company guidelines and quality standards.
- Advise and train dealers regularly on stock management, shelf life, and inventory control.
- Ensure all Retail Execution Driver (RED) targets are consistently met.
- Position point-of-sale displays to enhance product visibility over competing brands.
6. Managing Customer Credit Terms and Limits
- Monitor and manage customer credit limits to avoid under/over-spending and stock hold scenarios.
- Collaborate with the credit department to enforce compliance with agreed credit terms.
- Ensure prompt and efficient delivery of rebate cheques to eligible customers.
- Follow up on all outstanding accounts to ensure timely settlement.
7. Conducting Market Surveys and Competitive Analysis
- Collect and analyse data on competitor products, pricing, stock availability, and market presence.
- Execute surveys across designated outlets as per company guidelines.
- Identify areas of improvement and collaborate with relevant teams to implement corrective actions.
- Ensure follow-up is done to confirm compliance and execution of recommended improvements.

Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of a Diploma in Commerce or any other business-related discipline.
- At least 2 years of relevant sales experience in a dynamic commercial setting.
- Experience in HORECA (Hotels, Restaurants, and Catering) sales or FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated success in marketing, customer service, and building professional networks.

This role requires significant fieldwork, engaging directly with retail outlets, small businesses, and distributors across multiple regions in Kenya.
