Position Overview: Business Intelligence Analyst

The Business Intelligence Analyst will serve as a key driver in transforming raw data into strategic insights that influence organizational strategy and operational improvements. Working closely with teams from finance, clinical departments, the Gertrude’s Hospital Foundation, and research units, the BI Analyst will develop and maintain systems, dashboards, and reports that support both tactical and strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in business intelligence tools, possess strong data management skills, and have the ability to understand and analyze complex healthcare and operational datasets. They will also be responsible for mentoring staff on data literacy, supporting automation initiatives, and ensuring that information systems are optimized for accessibility, scalability, and security.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Stakeholder Collaboration and Needs Assessment
    • Engage with internal stakeholders across various departments, including hospital management, finance, clinical services, the foundation, and research, to identify and understand their data needs.
    • Translate stakeholder requirements into BI deliverables, such as interactive dashboards, detailed reports, and performance metrics.
    • Develop strong relationships across the organization to foster a culture of data-driven decision-making.
  2. Data Analysis and Insights Generation
    • Apply statistical methods and predictive analytics to analyze healthcare and operational datasets.
    • Use data tools and BI software to detect patterns, trends, and anomalies that can inform strategic decisions.
    • Deliver insights through clear and compelling data visualizations, executive summaries, and oral presentations to stakeholders.
  3. Data Management and Process Optimization
    • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to enhance data management processes, including data collection, cleaning, transformation, storage, and retrieval.
    • Identify inefficiencies in current data workflows and propose automation or system redesign solutions.
    • Monitor data quality and integrity across systems to ensure consistency and accuracy in reporting.
  4. Process Improvement and Automation
    • Support the hospital’s process improvement agenda by pinpointing areas where manual data handling can be reduced or replaced through automation.
    • Implement solutions that streamline the generation and distribution of BI reports.
    • Evaluate new BI technologies and methodologies to keep the hospital at the forefront of analytics capabilities.
  5. Collaboration with ICT and Data Infrastructure Teams
    • Work with ICT team members and external vendors to maintain and improve the hospital’s data architecture and infrastructure.
    • Ensure smooth integration of data from different systems including electronic medical records (EMR), financial systems, and research databases.
    • Assist in the design and management of the hospital’s Data Warehouse, ensuring scalability and optimal performance.
  6. User Training and Data Literacy Enhancement
    • Design and conduct training programs aimed at improving staff competency in data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
    • Promote data literacy across the organization by helping staff understand basic data concepts, metrics, and the importance of data in decision-making.
    • Provide hands-on support to end-users in accessing and interpreting BI dashboards and reports.
  7. Documentation and Knowledge Management
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation on all BI products, including dashboards, reports, and data models.
    • Develop user manuals and system usage guides to assist staff in navigating BI tools effectively.
    • Ensure proper version control and change tracking for BI assets.
  8. Technical Support and Issue Resolution
    • Respond to BI-related support requests and incident reports escalated by the ICT Support team.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues related to data access, dashboard errors, and report inconsistencies.
    • Maintain logs of user requests, resolutions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

Candidates interested in this role must meet the following qualifications and possess the requisite experience and skill set to be successful in the position:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Information Technology, Computer Science, or any math-focused or related field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ professional experience as a Business Intelligence Analyst or in a similar data-focused role.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A self-motivated individual who can thrive in both team settings and when working independently.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.
  • High proficiency in data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Structured Query Language (SQL) and database management systems.
  • Experience in managing Data Warehouses, including creating tables, views, procedures, and dimensions.
  • Additional experience with predictive analytics and the use of advanced statistical models will be considered an added advantage.
