Job Title: Cook

Job Purpose
The primary purpose of the Cook is to prepare and serve high-quality meals in a hygienic manner for both patients and staff. The Cook must understand and adhere to the nutritional requirements of various patients while ensuring timely delivery and presentation of meals. This role is vital to ensuring patient recovery and staff satisfaction through carefully planned and executed meal services.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare meals for patients and staff in accordance with approved menus and the nutritional needs of the patients, including special dietary requirements.
- Provide food supplements based on patients’ treatment and dietary plans.
- Collaborate with the food service team to ensure food is correctly prepared and presented.
- Ensure patient and staff satisfaction by preparing palatable and appealing meals.
- Serve meals on time and at the appropriate temperature to maintain food safety standards and taste.
- Maintain strict food hygiene standards, including proper cleaning procedures before cooking and using color-coded chopping boards to prevent cross-contamination.
- Take inventory of kitchen equipment, utensils, and food stocks, ensuring timely reorder of items to prevent shortages.
- Work across various sections of the kitchen including Saucier (sauces), Entremetier (vegetables and soups), Garde Manger (cold dishes), Butchery, Pastry, and Bakery.
- Ensure proper storage and labeling of ingredients and prepared food to prevent spoilage and contamination.
- Assist in developing meal plans that align with both health standards and patient recovery objectives.
- Participate in kitchen audits and health inspections, and address any compliance gaps identified.
Minimum Requirements / Qualifications
- A certificate in Catering, Food Production, or any equivalent certification.
- Minimum of two years of continuous experience in a busy kitchen setting, preferably in healthcare.
- A valid and up-to-date food handling certificate and typhoid vaccination certificate.
