About the Role

The Business Development Associate is a strategic, client-facing role designed to drive new revenue growth through innovative sales efforts and project execution. You will be responsible for developing and managing a strong sales pipeline, supporting major commercial projects, and collaborating across departments to ensure customer satisfaction. From carbon markets to corporate partnerships and NGO collaborations, this role touches every aspect of business development at BURN.

Key Responsibilities

1. New Business Development (40%)

As a core member of the business development team, your primary focus will be sourcing and closing new sales opportunities. Your daily efforts will fuel BURN’s continued growth and innovation.

  • Conduct weekly outreach activities such as cold calls, email messaging, and virtual or in-person meetings with potential and current clients.
  • Identify and develop tailored sales proposals that communicate BURN’s unique value proposition and align with client needs.
  • Build and maintain a high-quality, diverse sales pipeline that includes carbon developers, wholesale distributors, NGOs, and corporations.
  • Actively source new leads through industry registries, trade publications, LinkedIn, conferences, and inbound channels.
  • Track and pursue tenders and RFPs from development organizations, government institutions, and carbon finance platforms.
  • Meet or exceed quarterly sales targets by successfully closing deals and generating repeat business from existing clients.

2. Account Management (30%)

Client satisfaction and long-term relationship development are critical to BURN’s success. In this area, you will ensure that clients receive exceptional service before, during, and after contract execution.

  • Manage assigned customer accounts, ensuring timely fulfillment of contractual obligations and ongoing satisfaction.
  • Lead pre- and post-contract processes including negotiation, documentation, onboarding, order creation, invoicing, and dispatch coordination.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for client communications and support, resolving issues in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Draft and submit detailed technical and commercial proposals in response to tender and RFP opportunities.
  • Coordinate with departments such as R&D, Carbon, MRV, Distribution, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless delivery of projects.
  • Monitor key performance indicators of ongoing projects, identify performance gaps, and implement corrective measures.
  • Conduct post-delivery client satisfaction surveys and track insights for continuous improvement.

3. Market Intelligence and Decision Support (30%)

Data and market knowledge drive successful strategies. You will be responsible for staying abreast of market trends and sharing insights that enhance BURN’s competitive advantage.

  • Conduct bi-monthly research on market trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to support product development and sales strategies.
  • Collect and analyze internal data (financials, sales, logistics) to generate monthly reports and performance dashboards.
  • Maintain updated intelligence on competitor pricing, product specs, and commercial models for strategic positioning.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Your performance will be measured through a mix of strategic and tactical KPIs including:

  • Outreach: Number of outreach calls/meetings, follow-ups, and proposals delivered.
  • Revenue and Profitability: Unit sales achieved, revenue generated, gross margin, and quota attainment.
  • Sales Pipeline: Pipeline value, growth rate, and conversion ratio from lead to closed deal.
  • Competitor Analysis: Updated scorecards on pricing, specifications, and market share.
  • Relationship Metrics: Net Promoter Score (NPS) and Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT).

Additional KPIs may be introduced to align with evolving business priorities and project scopes.

Milestone Expectations

To ensure your successful integration into the role and sustained performance, BURN outlines specific benchmarks to be achieved in the first six months:

Within 3 Months:

  • Fully take ownership of assigned leads and achieve a 30% conversion rate from initial engagement to qualified opportunities.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of BURN’s product suite, market dynamics, and customer needs.
  • Independently conduct client discovery meetings and prepare customized proposals with minimal revisions.
  • Source at least 30 high-quality new leads through a combination of referrals, outbound outreach, and networking.
  • Launch a competitor intelligence dashboard and implement a live customer satisfaction tracking system with bi-monthly insight updates.

Within 6 Months:

  • Successfully close a minimum of two new deals from either assigned or self-sourced pipelines.
  • Build a lead portfolio representing a cumulative potential of 50,000 unit sales with clear engagement and conversion strategies.

Skills and Experience

To thrive in this role, candidates should bring the following experience and attributes:

  • At least one year of experience in customer-facing roles such as B2B sales, business development, or account management.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to extract insights from data to inform business decisions.
  • Highly motivated, with a proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving and client engagement.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for sales, customer engagement, and strategy development.
