Role Overview
The Head of Product, Airtel Money will be responsible for leading the full product lifecycle of Airtel Money offerings in Kenya, from ideation to launch and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mobile financial services or fintech, with an innovative mindset and a deep understanding of customer needs.
This role requires a strategic thinker who can translate market insights and user feedback into viable digital financial products. You will serve as the voice of the customer and play a pivotal role in aligning cross-functional teams to deliver compelling, compliant, and profitable products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Lifecycle Leadership
- Drive the entire product development cycle for Airtel Money products, from concept development to post-launch support.
- Define and refine the product vision and strategy in line with Airtel’s broader business objectives.
- Create clear and actionable roadmaps for new and existing product lines.
2. Customer Research & Market Insight
- Identify customer pain points and market gaps through qualitative and quantitative research.
- Utilize data analytics, surveys, and user feedback to develop customer-centric product ideas.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, customer behavior, and regulatory developments that may impact product strategies.
3. Product Design & Development
- Prepare detailed business cases and product requirement documents that guide design and engineering teams.
- Collaborate with UX/UI teams to develop user stories, wireframes, and mock-ups that reflect customer needs.
- Prioritize product features and enhancements based on customer value, business impact, and feasibility.
4. Go-To-Market Strategy & Execution
- Work closely with marketing, sales, and customer service teams to develop comprehensive go-to-market (GTM) strategies.
- Ensure strong product positioning, messaging, and communication to maximize customer adoption.
- Develop and implement launch plans that include internal readiness, external promotions, and customer education.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Act as a central coordination point across departments including technology, legal, finance, and operations.
- Ensure all stakeholders are aligned with the product vision, strategy, and timelines.
- Foster a collaborative culture that promotes open communication, rapid iteration, and continuous learning.
6. Technology & Engineering Interface
- Collaborate with software development teams to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of product features.
- Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives to ensure product objectives are met.
- Address technical constraints and find innovative ways to deliver value to the customer.
7. Product Performance Management
- Monitor and analyze key product performance metrics such as revenue growth, user engagement, retention, and churn.
- Use insights to refine product features, pricing strategies, and user experiences.
- Report regularly to senior leadership on product performance, strategic risks, and opportunities.
8. Innovation and Competitive Analysis
- Stay informed of competitive offerings and differentiate Airtel Money products in the market.
- Leverage emerging technologies and platforms to introduce innovative features that meet future customer needs.
- Experiment with A/B testing and pilot launches to validate product hypotheses and refine strategies.
9. Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure all product features and processes are compliant with relevant financial, data protection, and consumer regulations.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to assess risk and implement controls where necessary.
- Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and ethical conduct across the product team.

Required Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Technology, Finance, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is considered an advantage.
- At least 5–7 years of professional experience in product management, with a minimum of 3 years focused on mobile money, digital financial services, or fintech products.
- Demonstrated success in launching and scaling financial or digital products in emerging markets.
- Hands-on experience working in agile product development environments.
- Solid understanding of mobile money ecosystems, digital payments, customer acquisition, and regulatory frameworks in Africa.
