Job Description:
The Agriculture Officer will be tasked with implementing agricultural programs and policies to boost food security, promote sustainable farming practices, and improve livelihoods across the county. The role requires practical engagement with farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement and monitor agricultural projects, policies, and extension services at the county level.
- Support crop and livestock development programs to enhance productivity and food security.
- Offer technical advice and extension services to farmers on modern agricultural practices, including crop husbandry, soil and water conservation, pest and disease control, and agroforestry.
- Facilitate farmer training sessions, field demonstrations, and farmer field schools.
- Assist in the preparation of agricultural work plans, budgets, and reports.
- Participate in surveys, data collection, and analysis related to agricultural production, inputs, and output trends.
- Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders on matters relating to agricultural inputs, marketing, research, and value addition.
- Promote agribusiness ventures and help farmers form cooperatives and producer groups.
- Monitor and report on the status of agricultural activities and respond to emerging issues such as drought, floods, pest infestations, and market disruptions.
- Support climate-smart agriculture initiatives and sustainable land management practices.
- Keep accurate records of farming activities and ensure timely submission of progress reports.
- Engage with NGOs, CBOs, and private sector actors involved in the agriculture sector to create synergies and mobilize resources.
