About the Role: Unit Manager – Nakuru Branch

The successful candidate will lead a team of agents in driving sales and revenue targets, managing relationships, and expanding Madison’s market share in the region. The Unit Manager will work closely with the Branch Manager, the Regional Business Development Manager, and the Head of Branches to implement strategic initiatives aligned with the company’s goals.

This is a dynamic and challenging role that blends people management, sales leadership, and strategic execution, making it ideal for individuals who are result-driven, proactive, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.


Key Responsibilities

1. Sales and Revenue Generation

  • Drive the sales of the company’s general insurance products in line with set targets and strategic objectives.
  • Work towards achieving all set annual revenue budgets and ensure the right product mix.
  • Lead by example through personal production that meets or exceeds expected standards.

2. Market Development and Strategy Implementation

  • Understand the dynamics of the Nakuru region and participate in developing localized market strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Branch Manager and Regional Business Development Manager in implementing regional growth plans.

3. After-Sales Service and Customer Relationship Management

  • Offer ongoing support and after-sales services to clients as required.
  • Maintain high customer satisfaction through prompt, effective responses and relationship management.

4. Team Leadership and Development

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and manage a team of insurance agents under your unit.
  • Monitor agent performance and provide appropriate coaching, mentoring, and support to enhance productivity.
  • Motivate team members to achieve both individual and unit sales targets.

5. Performance Management and Reporting

  • Monitor the performance of agents and make data-driven recommendations to the Branch Manager.
  • Prepare and submit weekly unit production reports to the Branch Manager.

6. Public Relations and Networking

  • Build strong relationships with clients, professionals, business associations, and government agencies within Nakuru.
  • Represent the company positively in all forums and enhance brand visibility in the region.

7. Regulatory Compliance and Communication

  • Ensure that all agents in the unit are duly licensed in compliance with Kenyan law.
  • Act as the liaison between the unit and branch office, ensuring timely and effective communication.
  • Disseminate company policies and procedures clearly to agents, clients, and support staff.

8. Resource Utilization and Expense Control

  • Maximize the utilization of all available company resources to achieve unit objectives.
  • Exercise effective control over administrative and operational expenses at the unit level.

9. Additional Responsibilities

  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the company as part of ongoing business needs.
  • Ensure retention levels of the unit meet or exceed company standards.

Additional Duties under Guidance from Senior Management

Under the mentorship of the Branch Manager and the Regional Business Development Manager, the Unit Manager will also:

  • Build and sustain a competent sales force that aligns with Madison’s manpower development goals.
  • Ensure agents are professionally trained and certified to sell and service Madison’s product offerings.
  • Support agents in setting and reaching ambitious yet achievable performance milestones.
  • Implement Madison’s training and development blueprint to build capacity and skills within the unit.
  • Facilitate agents’ access to suitable markets based on the regional marketing strategy.
  • Supervise the implementation of customer service standards within the unit.
  • Maintain up-to-date, accurate production, retention, and recruitment records.
  • Align the unit’s performance with the national sales and revenue targets.

Qualifications and Professional Experience

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Possess a diploma or degree in a business-related field.
  • Show progress in attaining professional qualifications such as a Diploma in Insurance or CIM.
  • Have at least three (3) years of proven experience in general insurance sales.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage sales teams, develop markets, and generate consistent revenue.
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Exhibit strong customer focus, ownership, and commitment.
  • Be a team player with a clear sense of accountability.
  • Show deep understanding of market trends and insurance product positioning.
