The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a dedicated Intern – Legal Affairs to join its Nairobi office. This internship provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in international legal work while contributing to UNEP’s mandate of promoting environmental sustainability and the development of international environmental law.
About the Role
As a Legal Intern, you will support the Legal Affairs team in its work on legal matters, including research, drafting, and analysis. The role provides valuable exposure to the functioning of UNEP and its contributions to multilateral environmental agreements and international legal processes.
Job Description
- Assist in conducting legal research on a range of topics, including international environmental law, treaties, and governance frameworks.
- Support the drafting and review of legal documents, contracts, agreements, and memoranda.
- Help prepare background materials, briefing notes, and reports for use in meetings, negotiations, and consultations.
- Contribute to the analysis of legal issues and the interpretation of relevant rules, regulations, and policies.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations, case summaries, and other materials for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide support in the organization and servicing of meetings, workshops, and events related to legal affairs.
- Maintain and update legal files, databases, and other resources to ensure effective knowledge management.
- Perform additional tasks as required to support the daily work of the Legal Affairs team.
