To further enhance the delivery of its education mandate, AKES, Kenya and the Aga Khan Academies are seeking to recruit competent professionals for various positions. The advertised roles are spread across Mombasa and Nairobi and are suited for individuals passionate about education, student development, and the creation of thriving learning environments.

Position 1: Librarian

Location: Aga Khan High School, Mombasa

Role Summary

The Librarian will facilitate structured access to books and other educational resources within the school library to support academic programs. The position involves managing the library’s daily operations, ensuring resources are properly maintained, and promoting effective use of both traditional and digital learning materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop programs that meet the needs, abilities, and interests of students using various instructional techniques and media.

  • Assist in preparing the library budget and manage payments of fines related to loss or damages.

Position 2: Early Years Homeroom Teacher

Location: Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Nursery

Role Summary

The Early Years Homeroom Teacher will create an inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating classroom environment tailored for young learners under the International Baccalaureate (IB) Early Years framework. The position emphasizes inquiry-based teaching methods, supporting the holistic development of children across emotional, social, cognitive, and physical domains.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver age-appropriate, inquiry-based learning activities consistent with the IB Early Years framework.
  • Foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages creativity, curiosity, and exploration.
  • Promote the holistic development of each child, ensuring balanced attention to academic, emotional, and social growth.
  • Maintain strong communication channels with parents to share progress, challenges, and achievements.

Position 3: Academy Fellows

Role Summary

The Academy Fellows program is designed for individuals who will contribute to both the academic and residential life of the Academy. Fellows will not only serve as mentors and residential parents but also engage in tutoring, co-curricular activities, and community outreach through service-learning programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Residential Parents, guiding students in both personal and academic aspects of their lives.
  • Provide mentoring for a small group of students, supporting them academically and socially.
  • Support classroom teaching for approximately 10 hours per week in chosen subjects, with emphasis on Mathematics, Science, and English as an Additional Language.
  • Deliver and oversee the Service-Learning Programme for students in Years 6 to 10, which includes planning, coordinating with community partners, and mentoring student groups.
  • Supervise residential students by conducting official duties twice a week and once every third weekend, ensuring a supportive environment in the dormitories.
  • Participate actively in the co-curricular program, including coaching sports teams, teaching music, running clubs, or guiding students in debating, Model United Nations (MUN), or TedX initiatives.
  • Assist students applying to international universities with SAT preparation, personal statement reviews, and general academic support.
  • Chaperone students during off-campus trips, including cultural excursions and visits to places of worship.
  • Develop strong relationships with residential students by engaging in regular check-ins and providing pastoral care.

Position 4: Receptionist/Admin Assistant

The Receptionist/Admin Assistant will act as the first point of contact for visitors, parents, and students. As the face of the school, the individual must project a welcoming, professional, and helpful demeanor. The role also involves supporting administrative functions and ensuring smooth communication between various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome and direct all visitors, including parents, contractors, and delivery staff, while maintaining a professional and courteous approach.
  • Handle incoming telephone calls, transfer them to the appropriate staff, and take accurate messages when necessary.
  • Ensure visitor procedures are adhered to by issuing passes, maintaining records, and safeguarding the school premises.
  • Facilitate communication between parents and teachers by relaying messages in a timely and minimally disruptive manner.
  • Maintain the reception area, ensuring tidiness and that informational materials are updated regularly.
  • Record and dispatch outgoing mail efficiently.
  • Assist in organizing and administering school events.
  • Carry out additional duties assigned by the Head Teacher or Senior Leadership Team as required.

Position 5: PHE/Sports Teacher

Location: Aga Khan Primary School, Mombasa

Role Summary

The PHE/Sports Teacher will be responsible for enhancing learners’ physical education, sports knowledge, and overall fitness. The teacher will focus on developing students’ abilities in a safe and engaging environment while encouraging maximum participation in physical activities.

  • Design and deliver programs tailored to the abilities, interests, and needs of students using diverse instructional techniques.
  • Supervise indoor and outdoor practical PE lessons, ensuring safety and inclusivity.
