The position of Sonographer is a critical role in advancing this mission. Reporting to the Centre Manager, the sonographer will be responsible for carrying out ultrasound examinations, preparing accurate reports, ensuring client safety, and maintaining professional standards in line with MSI’s values and policies. Job Purpose
The Sonographer will perform high-quality ultrasound examinations and provide accurate diagnostic information to physicians to support effective treatment and care decisions. This role ensures that patients receive reliable sonography services that are consistent with professional standards, ethical practice, and the values of MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya.
The successful candidate will help further the goal of making reproductive choice possible for all women in Kenya, particularly those who rely on MSI for safe, confidential, and affordable care.
Key Responsibilities
The Sonographer’s responsibilities will cover a wide range of clinical, technical, and administrative functions designed to ensure that ultrasound services are provided at the highest standard. These include:
- Client Interaction and Assessment
- Review client medical history and supporting clinical information to determine appropriate procedures.
- Communicate effectively with clients to explain procedures in a way that is clear and sensitive to their level of understanding.
- Conduct thorough client assessments before beginning sonographic examinations.
- Conducting Diagnostic Sonography Examinations
- Perform the specific diagnostic sonography examination requested by the supervising physician in strict adherence to professional and organizational protocols.
- Apply independent judgment during examinations to capture accurate anatomical and clinical details.
- Ensure all diagnostic images are of high quality, comprehensive, and suitable for physician review.
- Examination Review and Reporting
- Analyze and synthesize examination findings to prepare preliminary reports for the supervising physician.
- Document and communicate any significant or unexpected findings promptly.
- Note limitations of examinations when applicable and escalate complex cases appropriately.
- Client Safety and Confidentiality
- Uphold patient safety during examinations, adhering to all clinical and ethical standards.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client records and information in line with MSI policies and privacy regulations.
- Utilize proper positioning tools, equipment adjustments, and scanning techniques to ensure comfort and prevent injury.
- Collaboration and Service Demand Generation
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to create awareness and demand for ultrasound services.
- Support outreach activities to increase service utilization and enhance patient access to diagnostic care.
- Equipment Management and Maintenance
- Prepare examination rooms and ultrasound equipment in line with infection prevention and control standards.
- Ensure the proper sterilization of equipment and adherence to safety protocols.
- Take responsibility for preventive maintenance of ultrasound equipment to guarantee optimal performance.
- Technical Operations
- Operate and manage the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) to store and retrieve diagnostic images efficiently.
- Acquire additional imaging when necessary to ensure comprehensive diagnostic outcomes.

Requirements
Applicants for this role are expected to meet the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Diploma in Ultrasound, Medical Imaging Sciences, or Radiography from a recognized institution.
- At least two years of working experience as a sonographer in a reputable medical facility.
- Registration with a relevant professional body and possession of a current practicing license.
- Proficiency in computer applications related to healthcare and imaging.
- Good knowledge of relevant healthcare legislation.
