Purpose of the Role

The Principal Officer – Micro Insurance will drive the strategic leadership of CIC Group’s micro insurance segment. The individual will also be responsible for fostering growth, overseeing product development, ensuring compliance with Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) standards, and providing overall leadership to the team and stakeholders involved in the micro insurance unit.


Detailed Job Description

The responsibilities of the Principal Officer are categorized into eight key areas, each contributing to the growth and success of CIC’s micro insurance subsidiary.

A. Strategic Leadership (20% of time)

The role requires the formulation and execution of business strategies aligned with both CIC Group’s vision and the subsidiary’s objectives. This includes identifying trends in the evolving micro insurance market, anticipating risks, and leveraging opportunities to drive innovation.

Key tasks include:

  • Designing and implementing the business strategy for micro insurance, ensuring consistency with CIC Group’s broader goals.
  • Monitoring emerging market trends and translating them into actionable business opportunities.
  • Leading transformation initiatives such as expanding digital insurance solutions, strengthening mobile-based service delivery, and establishing community-based distribution networks.

Through these activities, the Principal Officer will position the micro insurance segment as a key driver of financial inclusion and customer accessibility.


B. Business Growth and Market Development (20% of time)

A major component of this role is expanding CIC Group’s market presence in the micro insurance segment. Growth will be pursued through partnerships, innovative product delivery, and extensive outreach efforts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving revenue growth, increasing policy uptake, and ensuring consistent market penetration.
  • Establishing strategic collaborations with SACCOs, microfinance institutions, NGOs, telecommunications companies, and grassroots organizations.
  • Enhancing the affordability and accessibility of products to reach rural and low-income populations.
  • Championing CIC Group’s commitment to financial inclusion through product delivery models designed to remove barriers for vulnerable groups.

The Principal Officer will act as a growth catalyst by balancing outreach, affordability, and sustainability.


C. Product Development and Innovation (15% of time)

Developing micro insurance products that are accessible, simple, and compliant with IRA guidelines forms a crucial responsibility of this position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the design and pricing of micro insurance products tailored to customer needs.
  • Ensuring that products are transparent, easy to understand, and well-suited for the intended market segment.
