The Maintenance Technician role is central to ensuring the smooth running of our Nairobi factory. This is a highly technical position that involves maintaining, repairing, and improving mechanical systems and equipment to ensure reliability, efficiency, and compliance with safety and quality standards.

What You Will Do

As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for a broad range of tasks that ensure the reliability and optimal performance of machinery and systems. Your day-to-day responsibilities will cover preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and support for continuous improvement initiatives. Key duties include:

  • Preventive Maintenance: Carrying out scheduled preventive maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment to reduce the risk of breakdowns and extend machine life.
  • Diagnostics and Repair: Identifying mechanical faults and performing corrective repairs using hand tools, power tools, and precision instruments.
  • Replacement and Installation: Replacing defective parts and assisting in the installation of new machinery and systems, including alignment, calibration, and testing after setup.
  • Technical Interpretation: Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and manuals to ensure accurate execution of repair and installation work.
  • Inspections: Conducting routine inspections to identify wear, tear, or potential issues before they escalate into major problems.
  • Troubleshooting: Using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques to quickly locate mechanical problems and implement solutions.
  • Loss Eradication: Actively participating in machine loss eradication efforts by analyzing issues, implementing countermeasures, and engaging in World Class Manufacturing (WCM) process improvement teams.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining detailed logs of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and improvements for accountability and traceability.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with engineers, managers, and quality assurance teams to ensure all equipment meets performance and reliability standards.
  • Safety Compliance: Observing safe working practices, maintaining a hazard-free environment, and ensuring compliance with workplace safety standards.
  • Inventory and Tools Management: Organizing and managing mechanical parts inventory, requesting tools or parts when needed, and ensuring all equipment is in good condition.
  • Testing and Validation: Conducting tests on mechanical systems to confirm they meet operational and performance standards after repairs or installations.
  • Communication: Providing clear and timely updates to supervisors and engineers regarding job progress, challenges, and outcomes.

What We Believe You Have

  • A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Between 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in a mechanical maintenance role.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics accurately.
  • Familiarity with industry safety standards and procedures.
  • Proficiency in using a wide range of diagnostic, repair, and precision tools.
  • Knowledge of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles.
