Reporting to: Training Manager
The Engineering Trainee will be responsible for learning and gaining practical exposure across various engineering and maintenance operations within the hotel. Under the supervision of the Departmental Trainer and Training Manager, the trainee will be actively involved in supporting departmental activities while upholding company policies, safety regulations, and operational excellence standards.
This program is designed to equip trainees with the essential technical, supervisory, and operational skills required in the hospitality industry, with exposure to mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and MEP systems.
Key Responsibilities
During the internship period, the Engineering Trainee will be required to learn and perform tasks in line with departmental standards and hotel policies, including but not limited to:
Maintenance & Supervision
- Ensure that mechanical technicians adhere to assigned working hours.
- Provide close supervision of technicians to guarantee quality workmanship and timely task completion.
- Plan and schedule maintenance of equipment to minimize operational disruption, prioritizing urgent needs.
- Inspect public areas for electrical faults and ensure quick repairs are undertaken.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
- Perform periodic preventive maintenance for machines and equipment.
- Conduct daily checks for laundry and kitchen equipment to ensure functionality.
- Ensure that preventive maintenance schedules are followed consistently.
- Monitor the performance and servicing of plant equipment to evaluate effectiveness.
- Ensure quick, permanent solutions are implemented to prevent recurring issues.
Electrical & Mechanical Support
- Carry out minor electrical installations and service electrical equipment.
- Replace burnt-out bulbs throughout the premises.
- Facilitate guest room and property maintenance activities.
- Service, repair, and monitor electrical and mechanical systems to maintain high operational standards.
Safety, Compliance & Standards
- Ensure adherence to HACCP and COSHH safety policies.
- Ensure hazardous equipment is isolated and clearly labeled with warning signs.
- Maintain compliance with Department Brand Standards, Chief Engineer guidelines, and Kempinski International policies.
- Guarantee safe handling, operation, and maintenance of boilers and swimming pools, including accurate record keeping of water conditions.
Utilities & Resource Management
- Take daily readings of all electrical meters and submit data for utility reporting.
- Prepare daily utility consumption reports to support resource tracking.
- Ensure there are no leaks of fuel, gas, steam, or water within the plant room and premises.
- Manage fuel (AGO & LPG) reception and keep accurate records.
- Monitor and advise the storekeeper on required stock, ensuring timely availability of quality materials.
- Reduce material wastage by applying efficient usage practices.
Technical Knowledge Development
- Gain practical knowledge of HVAC, Electrical, and MEP installations.
- Learn proper chemical treatment for boiler make-up water and pool systems.
- Develop skills in troubleshooting and implementing effective technical solutions.
Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise
- Education: Degree or Diploma in an engineering course from a recognized learning institution.
- Experience: No prior work experience required; internship is open to fresh graduates or students who have completed coursework.
- Eligibility:
- Kenyan Citizen.
- Completion of studies within 2024/2025 (graduated or awaiting graduation).
- Additional Requirements:
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
