Location: All locations (GLT and Leaf Center)

The GLT Engineering & Maintenance Manager ensures capital expenditure projects, buildings, and utilities are managed with efficiency, professionalism, and accountability. This role is central in maintaining the plant, facilities, and utilities to guarantee uninterrupted production and operational success. Beyond maintenance, it involves leadership, strategic decision-making, and driving continuous improvement in line with BAT’s ambitious growth agenda.


Purpose of the Role

The primary mission of this position is to ensure that capital expenditure projects, engineering works, and maintenance activities are completed on time, within budget, and according to global and local standards. The manager leads a skilled team responsible for maintaining facilities, utilities, and machinery while also delivering cost-effective solutions to meet performance and growth targets.

Additionally, the role ensures uninterrupted supply of utilities—power, steam, air, water, and vacuum—essential to processing and administration functions.


Performance Goals

Success in this role is measured by the achievement of Co-plan targets and ensuring the plant is ready for both current and future growth. The manager will ensure that productivity, safety, quality, and efficiency standards are consistently achieved.


Principal Accountabilities

Business Focus

  • Improve equipment availability and efficiency through effective maintenance and optimization strategies.
  • Oversee engineering, utilities, facilities, and environmental health and safety in alignment with procurement to achieve Co-plan goals.
  • Lead plant maintenance, overhauls, and modifications, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum output.
  • Guarantee 100% availability of utilities and manage energy consumption responsibly.
  • Deliver capital and operational projects on schedule, within cost limits, and compliant with BAT standards.
  • Ensure all technical, legal, and safety standards are strictly followed.

Leadership

  • Build and maintain a motivated, engaged, and capable engineering team.
  • Develop and execute succession planning to secure long-term organizational strength.
  • Promote coaching, mentoring, and professional growth opportunities for team members.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and address any gaps effectively.
  • Act as a champion of change, ensuring servant leadership principles are embedded within the team.

Management

  • Set and achieve targets for maintenance and services cost, service-level agreements, and savings.
  • Manage both Opex and Capex budgets responsibly and efficiently.
  • Oversee spare parts inventory, machinery register, and maintenance planning.
  • Ensure compliance with BAT standards and local laws across all operations.

Relationship Management

  • Collaborate seamlessly with other internal departments—HR, Finance, Procurement, EHS, and Operations.
  • Manage strong external relationships with suppliers, contractors, utility providers, and statutory bodies.
  • Guarantee safe working conditions and prevent unplanned downtime in processing operations.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that boost efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Share best practices across BAT locations and contribute to a culture of innovation.
  • Support and enhance Integrated Work Systems (IWS), Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Daily Management Systems (DMS).

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, with more than five years in plant/engineering management.
  • Strong background in project management (PMP certification is an advantage).
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SAP, and factory operations systems.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and contract management abilities aligned with BAT Leadership Capabilities.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Integrated Work Systems (IWS).
  • Broad knowledge of factory operations and utilities management.
  • High degree of self-motivation, problem-solving skills, and innovation.
  • Registration with a professional engineering body.
  • Ability to make clear, timely decisions in challenging situations.

  • High operational efficiency (OEE), throughput, and yield with consistent quality standards.
  • Zero safety incidents and strict environmental compliance.

  • Smooth and complete implementation of Integrated Work Systems (IWS).
