Position Overview: Driver II, CSG 1

Requirements for Appointment

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum qualifications to be considered for appointment to the grade of Driver II, CSG 1:

  1. Educational Requirement
    Candidates must have obtained a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Mean Grade of D plain or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  2. Driving License
    Applicants must hold a valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s). The license must cover the class(es) of vehicles that the officer will be required to drive.
  3. First Aid Certification
    Applicants must have successfully attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week. Acceptable training institutions include St. John Ambulance, the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT), or any other recognized institution.
  4. Suitability Test
    Candidates must have passed the Suitability Test Grade III, a mandatory requirement that ensures readiness for government driving responsibilities.
  5. Police Clearance
    Applicants must present a valid Police Clearance Certificate, which demonstrates good conduct and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  6. Experience
    A minimum of two (2) years driving experience is required. This experience should reflect competence in handling different types of vehicles and a track record of safe driving.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will perform the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Driving motor vehicles as authorized and directed by the responsible officer.
  2. Carrying out routine checks on vehicles, including the cooling system, oil levels, electrical system, and brake system, to ensure roadworthiness.
  3. Maintaining work tickets for assigned vehicles, capturing details of usage, mileage, fuel consumption, and service records.
  4. Ensuring the security and safety of vehicles both on and off the road.
  5. Safeguarding the safety of passengers and goods being transported.
  6. Maintaining cleanliness and presentable condition of vehicles at all times.

The position is both operational and administrative in nature, as it combines driving duties with record-keeping, preventive maintenance practices, and compliance with government service standards.


Terms of Service

The Driver II, CSG 1 position offers the following terms of service:

  • Salary Scale: Kshs. 19,340 – 24,470 per month
  • House Allowance: As per the region of deployment
  • Commuter Allowance: Kshs. 3,000 per month
  • Leave Allowance: Kshs. 4,000 per year
  • Terms of Service: Permanent and pensionable
