Republic of Kenya – County Government of Kisii
Pursuant to Article 235 of the Constitution of Kenya and Section 59 of the County Governments Act (2012) Revised Edition 2020, the Kisii County Public Service Board invites applications from suitably qualified and eligible individuals to fill the following vacant positions within the County Public Service. These positions cut across various departments in the County’s health and education sectors, reflecting Kisii County’s continued investment in improved public service delivery and human capital development.
The Kisii County Government remains committed to delivering high-quality, equitable, and accessible services to its residents through a skilled and motivated workforce. The following sections outline each position in detail, highlighting the main duties and responsibilities assigned to each role.
1. Medical Officer
The Medical Officer will be responsible for providing clinical leadership, diagnosis, treatment, and care within designated health facilities. Duties include examining patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing treatment plans, and overseeing patient follow-up. The officer will also supervise subordinate clinical staff, ensure adherence to clinical guidelines, and contribute to health education and preventive care programs within the community.
2. Nursing Officer
The Nursing Officer will support the implementation of comprehensive nursing care to patients in accordance with established standards. Responsibilities include administering medication, monitoring patient progress, documenting care activities, and maintaining infection control standards. The officer will also coordinate patient admissions and discharges, assist physicians during medical procedures, and participate in continuous professional development programs to enhance care quality.
3. Registered Nurse III
The Registered Nurse III will provide general nursing care in inpatient and outpatient settings. Tasks involve performing clinical assessments, monitoring vital signs, providing basic treatments, and educating patients and families on disease prevention and health promotion. The nurse will assist in maintaining accurate medical records, ensuring proper utilization of supplies, and supporting emergency care services when required.
4. Critical Care Nurse
The Critical Care Nurse will deliver specialized nursing care to critically ill patients in intensive care and high-dependency units. Duties include monitoring life-support systems, responding to emergencies, administering intravenous medications, and working closely with physicians to manage complex clinical conditions. The role also entails providing psychological support to patients’ families and maintaining a safe, responsive care environment.
5. Theatre Nurse
The Theatre Nurse will be responsible for pre-operative and post-operative nursing care. Duties include preparing surgical rooms, sterilizing instruments, assisting surgeons during operations, and ensuring accurate documentation of surgical procedures. The nurse will also monitor patients during anesthesia recovery and maintain a sterile and safe theatre environment in accordance with clinical and occupational safety standards.
6. Neonatology Nurse
The Neonatology Nurse will provide nursing care to newborns requiring special medical attention, including premature and critically ill infants. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, administering medication, assisting in neonatal resuscitation, and educating mothers on infant care and breastfeeding. The nurse will collaborate with pediatricians to ensure optimal outcomes for newborns and maintain accurate neonatal records.
7. Nephrology Nurse
The Nephrology Nurse will manage patients undergoing renal treatment, including dialysis care. Key duties include preparing and maintaining dialysis machines, assessing patients before and after dialysis sessions, recording treatment data, and educating patients on renal health and dietary management. The nurse will also collaborate with nephrologists and other specialists in providing holistic kidney care.
8. Cardiology Nurse
The Cardiology Nurse will assist in the management and rehabilitation of patients with cardiovascular diseases. Duties include monitoring heart conditions, performing ECGs, administering prescribed cardiac medications, and supporting patient education on lifestyle adjustments. The nurse will also assist in outpatient cardiac clinics, emergency responses, and long-term follow-up programs.
9. Enrolled Nurse III
The Enrolled Nurse III will perform basic nursing tasks under supervision, including taking patient histories, monitoring vital signs, administering medication, and assisting in minor procedures. The nurse will maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the ward, ensure patient comfort, and contribute to accurate record keeping in accordance with nursing standards.
10. Clinical Officer (Ophthalmology)
The Clinical Officer (Ophthalmology) will provide diagnostic, curative, and preventive eye care services. Responsibilities include conducting visual acuity tests, diagnosing eye conditions, prescribing corrective lenses, and performing minor surgical procedures. The officer will participate in eye health outreach programs and collaborate with other specialists in the prevention of avoidable blindness.
11. Clinical Officer (Psychiatry)
The Clinical Officer (Psychiatry) will assess, diagnose, and manage patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Duties include providing counseling, prescribing psychiatric medications, maintaining patient case files, and supporting rehabilitation programs. The officer will also engage in community sensitization on mental health awareness and support multi-disciplinary treatment approaches.
12. Clinical Officer (Nephrology)
The Clinical Officer (Nephrology) will provide clinical services related to kidney health, including diagnosis, management, and referral of renal conditions. Responsibilities include supporting dialysis units, monitoring treatment responses, and advising patients on renal health maintenance. The officer will also collaborate with nephrology nurses and consultants to enhance patient outcomes.
13. Registered Clinical Officer III
The Registered Clinical Officer III will provide general medical services including diagnosis, treatment, and minor surgical procedures in health facilities. Duties include attending to patients, maintaining medical records, conducting routine ward rounds, and promoting preventive and community health initiatives. The officer will also supervise support staff and assist in health outreach activities.
14. Bio-Medical Engineer
The Bio-Medical Engineer will oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and calibration of medical equipment. Responsibilities include troubleshooting faults, training staff on safe equipment use, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. The engineer will also participate in planning for equipment procurement, maintenance schedules, and performance audits.
15. Bio-Medical Engineering Technologist III
The Bio-Medical Engineering Technologist III will support maintenance and repair of hospital machinery and medical devices. Duties include testing, servicing, and calibrating diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to ensure functionality. The technologist will maintain equipment inventory records and report on technical performance to the supervising engineer.
16. Dentist
The Dentist will provide comprehensive oral and dental care including examination, diagnosis, and treatment of dental conditions. Duties include performing restorative and preventive procedures, conducting oral health education, and maintaining dental records. The dentist will also supervise dental technologists and participate in community oral health campaigns.
17. Dental Technologist III
The Dental Technologist III will fabricate, repair, and maintain dental prostheses and appliances according to dentists’ prescriptions. Responsibilities include operating laboratory equipment, ensuring quality standards in dental materials, and maintaining records of laboratory work. The technologist will also support the dentist in patient care where necessary.
18. Optometrist III
The Optometrist III will be responsible for conducting eye examinations to determine visual acuity and prescribing corrective lenses. Duties include detecting ocular abnormalities, advising on eye care, fitting spectacles or contact lenses, and maintaining detailed patient records. The optometrist will also support eye health awareness programs in the community.
19. Pharmacist
The Pharmacist will oversee the preparation, dispensing, and management of pharmaceutical products. Key duties include reviewing prescriptions for accuracy, providing drug information to healthcare professionals and patients, maintaining inventory, and ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical regulations. The pharmacist will also participate in rational drug use programs and pharmacovigilance reporting.
20. Pharmaceutical Technologist III
The Pharmaceutical Technologist III will assist in dispensing medications and maintaining stock levels under supervision of a pharmacist. Responsibilities include compounding, labeling, and storing pharmaceuticals, as well as keeping detailed inventory records. The technologist will also provide patient counseling on drug usage and monitor treatment adherence.
21. Medical Laboratory Officer
The Medical Laboratory Officer will manage laboratory operations, conduct diagnostic tests, analyze results, and ensure quality assurance. Duties include supervising laboratory technologists, maintaining equipment calibration, managing supplies, and ensuring compliance with biosafety protocols. The officer will also collaborate with clinicians in interpreting results for patient care decisions.
22. Medical Laboratory Technologist III
The Medical Laboratory Technologist III will perform routine laboratory analyses including hematology, biochemistry, and microbiology tests. Responsibilities include sample collection, preparation, and documentation of results. The technologist will ensure adherence to laboratory safety procedures and contribute to diagnostic accuracy in clinical operations.
23. Orthopedic Trauma Officer
The Orthopedic Trauma Officer will assist in managing fractures, dislocations, and musculoskeletal injuries. Duties include applying casts and splints, supporting orthopedic surgeries, maintaining trauma equipment, and providing patient education on rehabilitation. The officer will also participate in emergency response and follow-up care services.
24. Orthopedic Technologist III
The Orthopedic Technologist III will support the fabrication, fitting, and maintenance of orthopedic appliances. Responsibilities include measuring patients, molding casts, and assisting surgeons in the management of musculoskeletal disorders. The technologist will also maintain orthopedic workshop tools and ensure compliance with clinical standards.
25. Assistant Public Health Officer III
The Assistant Public Health Officer III will promote community sanitation and disease prevention programs. Key duties include inspecting premises, enforcing public health regulations, supervising waste disposal, and conducting health education campaigns. The officer will also collect epidemiological data and support environmental health surveillance.
26. Community Health Officer II
The Community Health Officer II will coordinate community-based health programs aimed at promoting disease prevention and primary health care. Duties include supervising community health volunteers, conducting health education sessions, and linking households with health services. The officer will also collect health data to support planning and evaluation.
27. Community Oral Health Officer III
The Community Oral Health Officer III will provide preventive and basic curative oral care services. Duties include conducting dental screenings, extractions, scaling, and oral health education in schools and communities. The officer will maintain dental equipment and participate in oral hygiene promotion campaigns.
28. Physiotherapist III
The Physiotherapist III will provide rehabilitation services to patients with physical impairments or injuries. Responsibilities include assessing patient needs, developing treatment plans, conducting therapeutic exercises, and maintaining progress records. The physiotherapist will also educate patients and caregivers on home-based care techniques.
29. Mortician
The Mortician will manage mortuary services including receiving, preservation, and preparation of bodies for postmortem or burial. Duties include maintaining accurate mortuary records, ensuring hygienic conditions, and liaising with families and authorities regarding body release. The mortician will also maintain mortuary equipment and facilities in line with health regulations.
30. Radiographer III
The Radiographer III will operate radiographic imaging equipment to produce diagnostic images. Duties include preparing patients, capturing accurate radiographs, maintaining radiation safety standards, and ensuring equipment functionality. The radiographer will collaborate with clinicians in diagnostic and treatment procedures.
31. Theatre Technologist
The Theatre Technologist will manage the preparation and maintenance of operating theatres. Key tasks include sterilizing surgical instruments, organizing theatre schedules, assisting in surgical procedures, and ensuring effective infection control. The technologist will maintain equipment logs and support training of theatre staff.
32. Assistant Health Records Information Management Officer III
The Assistant Health Records Information Management Officer III will handle patient records, registration, and data entry in health facilities. Duties include filing, retrieving, and updating patient information systems, preparing statistical reports, and maintaining confidentiality in all record-keeping processes.
33. Nutrition and Dietetics Technician III
The Nutrition and Dietetics Technician III will assist in providing nutritional assessment, counseling, and dietary planning for patients and communities. Responsibilities include implementing nutrition programs, monitoring dietary intake, and promoting food safety practices. The technician will also support public health nutrition campaigns and documentation.
34. Assistant ECDE Teacher II
The Assistant ECDE Teacher II will support classroom learning activities for young learners. Duties include assisting in lesson delivery, managing classroom materials, observing child progress, and ensuring a safe and stimulating environment. The teacher will promote holistic child development through play-based learning and continuous assessment.
35. Assistant ECDE Teacher III
The Assistant ECDE Teacher III will assist in daily classroom routines, support learning through interactive activities, and help maintain learner attendance records. The teacher will also contribute to classroom organization, child hygiene management, and preparation of instructional materials under supervision of senior ECDE staff.
