Job Description
The Laboratory Technologist’s key duties and responsibilities will include the following:
- Sample Collection and Processing
- Receiving, labeling, and accurately processing various biological specimens including blood, urine, and tissue samples.
- Ensuring all samples are collected in accordance with established protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
- Recording and managing specimen information through the laboratory information system (LIS).
- Maintaining confidentiality of patient information and ensuring traceability of samples throughout the testing process.
- Testing and Analysis
- Performing a wide range of diagnostic tests including hematology, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, and parasitology procedures.
- Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration and performance verification before use.
- Conducting manual and automated assays while adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Analyzing test results and validating data to ensure consistency and reliability before release.
- Quality Control and Assurance
- Implementing internal and external quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- Participating in proficiency testing and maintaining accurate documentation of all quality-related activities.
- Identifying sources of error or inconsistency and initiating corrective or preventive actions.
