Role Overview

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Development and Implementation of SHEQ Policies and Procedures

  • Develop, implement, and maintain road safety, health, and environmental (SHEQ) policies and procedures that align with KBL and DHL’s global standards.
  • Ensure that all operational processes within transport and logistics are compliant with established SHEQ frameworks and international best practices.
  • Review and update policies regularly to reflect evolving industry requirements, legislative changes, and organizational needs.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant local, regional, and international road safety and environmental regulations.
  • Identify potential risks within KBL’s transport network and develop mitigation strategies to proactively manage them.
  • Conduct periodic audits to assess adherence to SHEQ standards and provide recommendations for improvement.

Incident Prevention and Response

  • Lead initiatives to prevent road incidents by implementing robust safety awareness and driver behavior programs.
  • Investigate all transport-related accidents and incidents, ensuring accurate documentation, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective and preventive measures.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of incidents in accordance with legal and organizational reporting requirements.
  • Develop and manage emergency response plans to ensure readiness and swift action in case of transport or safety emergencies.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Deliver targeted road safety and SHEQ training to drivers, transport personnel, and subcontractors to cultivate a strong safety-first mindset.
  • Organize periodic refresher training sessions focused on road safety compliance, vehicle maintenance, and safe driving techniques.
  • Collaborate with training providers and internal departments to ensure continuous professional development in SHEQ-related competencies.

Environmental Management

  • Monitor and evaluate KBL’s transport and yard operations to ensure environmental compliance with both statutory and internal standards.
  • Support and oversee environmental impact assessments for new or modified fleet operations.
  • Promote initiatives that minimize environmental impact, such as optimizing fuel consumption, reducing emissions, and managing waste responsibly.

Quality Assurance and Operational Standards

  • Implement quality assurance measures within transport execution to ensure service consistency and alignment with brand expectations.
  • Conduct periodic quality checks to verify adherence to operational procedures, vehicle standards, and delivery requirements.
  • Track and report on SHEQ performance metrics, analyzing trends and recommending process improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including transport teams, enforcement agencies, and regulatory authorities to maintain high compliance levels.
  • Engage with third-party carriers to ensure that subcontracted operations meet DHL and KBL safety expectations.
  • Represent the organization in industry forums, stakeholder meetings, and audits to uphold DHL’s commitment to safety and quality.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) related to safety, environment, and quality performance.
  • Provide regular reports on SHEQ activities, highlighting achievements, gaps, and areas for continuous improvement.
  • Develop action plans to close performance gaps and monitor progress through structured follow-ups.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Safety Compliance

  • Monitor the issuance and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) for drivers and ground staff.
  • Enforce compliance with safety protocols and ensure that all personnel adhere to company PPE standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections to verify proper usage and maintenance of safety gear.

Cultural Leadership and Continuous Improvement

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork through consistent communication and role modeling of best practices.
  • Recognize and reward employees who demonstrate exemplary adherence to safety and SHEQ standards.
  • Promote continuous improvement by encouraging feedback, innovation, and shared learning across teams.
