Call for applications: a project officer for “Civil Society and Humanitarian Affairs” to be placed within the Cooperation and Cultural Action Service

The French Embassy in Kenya is recruiting a project officer for “Civil Society and Humanitarian Affairs” to be based within the Cooperation and Cultural Action Service.

Main tasks

The Civil Society and Humanitarian Project Officer, reporting to the Cooperation and Cultural Action Advisor, has the following main tasks:

- To design, negotiate and implement bilateral cooperation projects within the framework of the policy defined by the Ambassador and the Counselor for Cooperation and Cultural Action, in conjunction with civil society actors;
- to support the implementation of the FEF on forest preservation in conjunction with the project’s civil society partners;
- to support the implementation of a FEF-CSO on the economic empowerment of women and feminist organizations;
- to define and implement an annual budget program;
- to monitor actions financed by public funds, particularly in the area of ​​humanitarian and civil society support by Team France (AFD and MEAE);
- to develop relationships with national authorities, French and European operators, and partners in cooperation actions;
- to develop professional and social networks in order to promote the visibility of cooperation: to organize forums and meetings of stakeholders with CSOs, donors and national authorities;
- to develop connections with private sector actors carrying out CSR actions in humanitarian and civil society matters, in particular by relying on the Franco-Kenyan Chamber of Commerce;
- Drafting project reports (AFD and MEAE), and monitoring the humanitarian situation in Kenya – including the issue of refugees and asylum seekers, and potentially in Somalia.
- Monitoring decentralized cooperation activities in conjunction with COCAC and international solidarity volunteers present in Kenya.

Desired profile

• Degree: Minimum Master’s level (development studies, project management, international relations, public policy, humanitarian work).
• Languages: French (C2 level). English (C1 level) required. Knowledge of Swahili is an asset.
• Computer skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Skills and qualities expected

• Proven experience in project management
; • Knowledge of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, its networks, and its operators
; • Knowledge of humanitarian and civil society issues in the region (Kenya and Somalia);
• Strong ability to work independently and on multiple projects  ;
• Adaptability to a multicultural environment;
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills;
• Proven skills in technical and budgetary project management  ;
• Excellent communication skills (public speaking);
• Ability to work under pressure;

Work environment and conditions

• Start date: January 1, 2026
• Fixed-term contract (1 year), with the possibility of extension
• Evening/weekend availability: in case of events (time off in lieu possible)
• Vacation: 30 days
• Salary  : Level 7
