Lead Data Analyst

Job Purpose:
- The Lead Data Analyst will lead the design, development, and delivery of high-quality analytical reports, dashboards, and insights that enable data-driven decisions across the business.
- The Lead Data Analyst translates business needs into analytical solutions, manages reporting workflows, and guides analysts to ensure accuracy, consistency, and value in all outputs.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic:
- Translate business needs into data strategy and reporting priorities.
- Work with Head of Advanced Analytics to define KPIs and measurement frameworks.
- Recommend data infrastructure improvements to support analytics scalability.
- Contribute to data governance and quality assurance frameworks.
Initiatives:
- Lead development of dashboards, scorecards, and analytical reports.
- Partner with business units to define metrics, reporting logic, and use cases.
- Conduct deep-dives and ad hoc analyses to support key initiatives.
- Ensure alignment of reporting outputs with business goals.
Operational:
- Oversee the work of analysts: task allocation, reviews, and delivery tracking.
- Manage data pipelines and ensure consistent, reliable reporting.
- Conduct QA/QC on outputs and maintain documentation standards.
- Support training and onboarding of new analysts.
- Promote a culture of data literacy and analytics enablement.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting Strategy:
- Define business KPIs and reporting standards.
- Recommend improvements to reporting systems.
- Align reporting outputs to strategy.
Business Partnering:
- Translate business needs into analytical requirements.
- Engage stakeholders to define metrics.
- Present findings and recommendations.
Dashboard and Report Design:
- Lead development of dashboards and scorecards.
- Set standards for data visualization.
- Ensure clear and actionable insights.
Advanced Analytics:
- Perform deep-dives and root-cause analysis.
- Support business decision-making with insights.
Team Oversight:
- Supervise analysts and assign tasks.
- Provide technical support and mentorship.
- Manage delivery timelines.
Quality Assurance:
- Review data outputs for accuracy.
- Ensure consistent documentation and formatting.
- Maintain data pipelines and error resolution.
Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
Professional Qualifications / Membership to professional bodies/ Publication:
- Certification in Business Analytics or BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
- SQL and Data Warehousing certifications.
- (Preferred) Google Data Analytics Certificate or equivalent.
Work Experience Required:
5+ years in data analysis, with proven leadership in analytics projects.
Competencies:
- Analytical Thinking: applies logical and critical thinking to interpret data and generate business insights.
- Data Visualization & Reporting: creates impactful dashboards and reports using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Looker.
- Stakeholder Engagement: understands business needs and translates them into actionable reporting solutions.
- Data Governance Awareness: ensures reporting accuracy by adhering to data quality, consistency, and lineage standards.
- Team Leadership: manages and mentors analysts, setting expectations and ensuring timely delivery of outputs.
- Attention to Detail: maintains high levels of accuracy and completeness in all analytical deliverables.
- Communication Skills: explains analytical outputs clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Process Improvement Orientation: identifies opportunities to streamline reporting workflows and enhance automation.
