
The Embassy of Norway in Nairobi represents Norway in Kenya, Somalia and Seychelles, and is the permanent delegation to UNEP and UN-HABITAT. The visa section is responsible for handling applications from South of Sahara. The Embassy promotes Norwegian policies, interests and values in political and economic relations, development cooperation, in trade and investment promotion and in cultural and information matters. It provides consular services to Norwegian nationals and migration services to non-nationals. The Norwegian Embassy in Khartoum (Sudan) is at present residing at our office.

The Embassy has a permanent vacancy as Visa Officer in the Embassy’s administrative team. The position is available from February 2026.
Main duties:
- Receive and register applications for Schengen visas, residence cases and other permits
- Perform control of persons and documents (ID control)
- Print visa stickers and distribute decisions
- Organizing and filing
- Communication with our users and provide information to the public
- Conduct interviews and verify information/documents
- Perform DNA tests of applicants
- Other tasks as instructed by line manager
Qualifications
- Fluency (written and oral) in English
- Proficiency in computer software programs such as Microsoft Office
- Relevant higher education (e.g. university degree). Long and relevant experience may compensate for higher education
- Work permit in Kenya
The following qualifications will be an advantage:
- Proficiency in French
- Good knowledge of legal framework and politico-socio and cultural situation in one or more countries in West-Africa
- Knowledge of Schengen regulations
- Relevant work experience

- Ability to work efficiently, structured and independently
- Strong communication skills, both written and orally
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work in stressful situations and under pressure

Employment modalities
The positions are based in Nairobi under a local contract. Remuneration as visa officer. A professional and conducive working environment will be offered, in addition to good insurance and pension schemes.
