The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi (AKA, Nairobi) is an IB continuum school in Kenya authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) from Early Years through the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Senior School has an opening for the position of: Science Teacher.
Role Summary
The Science Teacher reports to the Head of Department (Science). In this role, the teacher will teach Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics – as appropriate to specialism) within the IB curriculum at both MYP and DP levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teaching & Learning:
Deliver high-quality instruction, training and assessment in assigned science subjects, ensuring lessons are engaging, inquiry-driven and aligned with the school’s curriculum framework.
- Lesson Planning:
Prepare and maintain daily lesson plans using the school-approved format, integrating differentiated strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Supervision & Substitution:
Undertake substitution and other supervisory duties as assigned by Team Leaders and the Head of School to support the smooth running of the school day.
- School Programmes & Initiatives:
Contribute actively to co-curricular activities, school programmes and departmental initiatives as agreed with the Team Leaders and the Head of School.
- Student Behaviour & Guidance:
Implement fair and consistent behavioural and disciplinary practices in line with the school’s behaviour policy, fostering a respectful and supportive learning environment.
- Student Welfare:
Take a proactive role in promoting student wellbeing by offering guidance and support, liaising with relevant staff when necessary.
- Professional Conduct:
Model professionalism by maintaining high expectations of student conduct, appearance and engagement, while respecting and celebrating diversity within the school community.
The requirements
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education Science.
- 5 years’ teaching experience in an international curriculum school.
- Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with students, staff and external partners.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
