  1. ABOUT BIOVISION AFRICA TRUST

Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) is a not-for-profit organization established in Kenya in 2009, with its head office located within the main campus of the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) in Kasarani, Nairobi. The Trust’s goal is to sustainably improve the health and prosperity of people in Africa while conserving the environment with agroecology and ecological organic agriculture as a basis for all life. Its mission is to alleviate poverty and improve the livelihoods of rural communities in Africa through disseminating relevant information and building the capacity of farmers and partners for the ecological transformation of African agriculture and food systems. A food secure African continent with healthy people living in a healthy environment is the vision of the Trust.
BvAT implements the Farmer Communication Programme in East Africa, the African Union Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) initiative in 9 countries (five in Eastern Africa and four in West Africa). In collaboration with PELUM Uganda BvAT coordinates the Knowledge Hub for Eastern Africa (KHEA) under the global Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture in Africa (KCOA) covering the five regions of Africa – West, East, North, Central and Southern Africa. Consequently, BvAT has strengthened its position as a leading organization championing the development of agroecology in Kenya and the African continent.

  1. ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT

Biovision Africa Trust is seeking a qualified trainer/firm to carry out a one-day training during the annual staff retreat. The training will focus on personal financial management and investment.

  1. RATIONALE & OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

One of the greatest challenges faced globally is the lack of financial literacy, which affects individuals personally, their communities, and the economy. Recognizing that personal financial problems have a direct bearing on the workplace, BvAT aims to equip its staff with these basic life management skills.
The trainer will design and run an indoor training using a dynamic and participative approach to enable staff to learn more about management of personal finances.
The specific training objective is to equip participants with financial skills to manage their personal lives better, start planning for retirement early, and develop positive personal finance management behaviours.

  1. SCOPE OF WORK & IDENTIFIED AREAS OF FOCUS

The facilitator is expected to cover the training key areas through interactive sessions. Given that financial literacy is often missing from formal education, the consultant must deliver introductory modules covering:

  • Personal finance self awareness.
  • Understanding your “Money personality”
  • The Big 5 secrets of personal finance management
  • Employing money to work for you—investment options suitable for beginners.
  • Budgeting as the core of personal finance growth.
  1. EXPECTED OUTCOMES

By the end of the retreat, BvAT expects:

  • Staff with improved financial security, reduced financial stress, and knowledge of how to access pension and investment plans.
  • Increased staff motivation, retention, and confidence levels.
  1. EXPECTED DELIVERABLES
  • Articulating the process of training.
  • Development of pre- and post-training surveys to reflect satisfaction rates and needs.
  • Clearly articulating the objectives of topics covered
  • Delivery of the one-day retreat training using interactive tools.
  • A report outlining proceedings, key outcomes, post-training analysis, and recommendations for sustaining the training objectives.
  1. DURATION AND MANAGEMENT

The consultancy will be for 1 day on the 18th of December 2025, under the supervision of the Chair of Staff Retreat Planning Committee.

  1. PARTICIPANTS

A total of 51 staff will attend, comprising main office staff based in Nairobi and field staff from across the country and international (Uganda and Tanzania) staff.

  1. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • University degree preferably in Finance, or Economics and other complementary qualifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and at least 3 years of experience facilitating retreats for international organizations.
  • Specific expertise in Financial Literacy training is required
  • Strong analytical, coaching, and emotional intelligence skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  1. BUDGET

The estimated total cost for this assignment should cover professional fees, training materials, travel, accommodation and any other costs related to the assignment.
