To strengthen service delivery across hospital-based and outreach services, applications are invited for several locum nursing positions within the Nursing Department, as well as a senior clinical leadership role within an outreach medical centre.

Position 1: NICU Nurses – Locum

Overall Responsibility

The NICU Nurse – Locum will be responsible for providing specialized and comprehensive nursing care to newborns requiring intensive monitoring and treatment. The role focuses on delivering evidence-based neonatal care while supporting families and collaborating closely with paediatricians, neonatologists, and the wider multidisciplinary care team.

Key Responsibilities

The NICU Nurse will provide holistic, patient-centred nursing care tailored to the individual clinical needs of neonates admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This includes continuous monitoring of vital signs, neurological status, respiratory function, and overall wellbeing.

Pre-Operative Phase Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

The nurse will conduct comprehensive wound assessments and develop individualized care plans for patients with a wide range of wound types, including surgical wounds, pressure injuries, and chronic non-healing wounds.

Application of current wound care principles is essential, including accurate wound staging, selection of appropriate dressings, and evaluation of treatment effectiveness.

The role includes developing and implementing skin care regimens and pressure injury prevention strategies to reduce the risk of further tissue damage.

Care plans must be reviewed and adjusted based on patient response, healing progress, and emerging clinical needs.

Pain assessment and reassessment are integral to wound care management. The nurse will initiate analgesia in accordance with protocols and provide education to patients and families on pain control strategies.

The Medical Officer in Charge will assess patients, make appropriate diagnoses, and manage patient cases in line with clinical best practices and established guidelines.

The role includes performing investigative and therapeutic procedures, as well as minor surgical interventions, where clinically indicated.

The officer will reassess and follow up patients, ensuring continuity of care and making referrals to higher-level facilities or specialists when required to optimize patient outcomes.
