The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) is the apex body for the private sector in Kenya. KEPSA brings together local and foreign business associations, federations, chambers of commerce, professional bodies that are sectoral umbrella bodies and individual sectoral business membership organizations, corporates, from multinationals to large and medium- sized companies, SMEs, and start-ups from all sectors of the economy, across all parts of the country. This gives KEPSA a reach of over 2 million businesses directly and indirectly. KEPSA also serves as the national focal point of the East Africa Business Council (EABC), the umbrella body of businesses in East Africa. It hosts the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Kenya Chapter, a member of the ICC with a reach of over 45 million businesses globally.

KEPSA Foundation is the social arm of KEPSA industry is committed to advancing socioeconomic transformation agenda. The Foundation focuses on social issues under the four priority areas namely: Women & Youth Empowerment, Leadership and Childcare, Climate – Change and Sustainability, Governance, and Community Outreach/Partnerships and Networks. The Foundation’s mandate is to provide the private sector platform for the social economic transformation through strengthening the business environment and global competitiveness.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

The position will provide day-to-day technical, administrative, and coordination support to the program team in the implementation of gender equality, Women in Leadership (WiL), and Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) initiatives. The role will contribute to advancing inclusive private sector engagement by promoting meaningful participation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups across program interventions. This position is well suited for a highly organized and proactive individual with a strong passion for gender equality, private sector transformation, and inclusive economic development.

Key Responsibilities

A. Gender Research

  • Support the coordination and implementation of landscape assessments on women’s leadership, and workplace practices and policies within the private sector, including women-led enterprises and business membership organizations.
  • Assist in integrating gender mainstreaming and gender audit processes across private sector engagements, including gender-responsive data collection, analysis, application of gender- sensitive tools, and documentation to ensure increased grass root women’s participation in entrepreneurship and compliance with gender equity and equality standards.
  • Contribute to the development and strengthening of women’s leadership pipelines by supporting mentorship initiatives, accountability dashboards, and leadership tracking databases to inform evidence-based decision-making and program improvement.

B. Program Implementation & Coordination

  • Support the implementation of private sector Women in Leadership (WiL) initiatives, including mentorship, coaching, and peer-learning platforms with an emphasis on grass root women groups.
  • Assist in the mobilization and onboarding of participants for women’s leadership programs, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date participant databases and records.
  • Support coordination of the Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) and Women in Leadership (WiL) Champions Network, including facilitating engagement and communication with private sector actors and business membership organizations.
  • Provide logistical and coordination support for high-level convenings, peer-learning sessions, and knowledge-sharing and exchange forums with private sector stakeholders.

C. Monitoring, Documentation & Reporting

  • Support with tracking and reporting on the participation and progress of women entrepreneurs under the Private Sector Engagement for Women Entrepreneurs (PSE-WEO) project.
  • Assist in building, mapping, and tracking grassroot women’s leadership networks in target areas, partnerships, and linkages established through the PSE-WEO initiative.
  • Support the maintenance and regular updating of databases and accountability dashboards for Women in Leadership (WiL) and Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) interventions.
  • Document best practices, case studies, lessons learned, and success stories to support institutional learning, visibility, and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to the preparation of project reports, presentations, meeting minutes, and concept notes in line with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Support the tracking and follow-up of commitments and action points made by private sector actors during convenings, dialogues, and project-related events.

D. Communications & Visibility

  • Support the development, adoption, and dissemination of gender-responsive toolkits, workplace guidelines and policies to promote inclusive private sector practices and policies.
  • Assist in developing content for communication products, media campaigns, and visibility materials that showcase women leaders, role models, and evidence-based best practices from program interventions.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to document and amplify program achievements, success stories, and key outcomes from convenings and events across KEPSA Foundation and KEPSA private sector platforms.

E. Events & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Provide event planning, coordination, and on-site support for leadership summits, awards ceremonies, industry dialogues, workshops, and other high-level private sector engagements.
  • Assist in stakeholder mapping, engagement, and follow-up with CEOs, HR practitioners, gender experts, business leaders, and other relevant private sector actors.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date contact databases of partners, gender champions, private sector stakeholders, and program participants.
  • Provide administrative, coordination, and scheduling support to project teams, including stakeholder engagement, meeting planning, and follow-up on agreed action points.

F. Inclusion & Outreach

  • Support the integration of gender and inclusion perspectives across all project phases, including design, implementation, monitoring, and learning, with a focus on inclusive initiatives targeting ultra-poor and micro women entrepreneurs

G. Capacity building

  • Support the facilitation of capacity-building workshops for staff and partners, including embedding and tracking women’s participation and representation across value chains, with deliberate inclusion of grassroots women within private sector companies and Business Membership Organizations (BMOs).
  • Support the development and implementation of activities, policies, and frameworks that promote inclusive, equitable, and gender-responsive engagement within the private sector.
  • Promote and strengthen the leadership and collective voice of grassroot women’s groups, with a specific focus on ultra-poor and micro women entrepreneurs.

H. Technical support

  • Draft project reports, workshop briefs, and summary notes in line with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Assist in the development of gender-responsive strategies, tools, and training materials to support inclusive private sector programming.
  • Support and facilitate gender-related consultations with partner organizations and stakeholders to inform program design and implementation.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Development Studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated interest in advancing gender equality, women’s leadership, and women’s economic empowerment within the private sector.
  • Knowledge of agricultural value chains and familiarity with National Policy on Women’s Economic Empowerment (NPWEE) priorities and high-impact areas is an added advantage.
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information for reports and knowledge products.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with confidence in engaging diverse stakeholders across the private sector and development partners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with gender policies, labor laws, and workplace inclusion standards is desirable.
  • Previous experience supporting events, trainings, campaigns, or coordination activities is an added advantage.
