by Recal

We are looking for two university interns for a three-month university internship at the Embassy of Finland in Nairobi. The first internship will start on June 1, 2026 and the second will start on September 15, 2026.

The Embassy of Finland in Nairobi is part of the Finnish Foreign Service. The Embassy oversees and promotes Finland’s interests and manages and develops diverse connections between Finland and Kenya.

The Embassy of Finland in Nairobi is looking for a university intern who is in the final stages of their studies for multidisciplinary tasks. There are two internship positions available, the first starting on 1 June 2026 and the second starting on 15 September 2026 or by agreement. The internship will last three months.

The university intern will participate in a variety of embassy tasks, for example, assisting with the mission’s daily tasks related to Kenya, Somalia, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Population Programme (UN Habitat).

What do we expect from you?

We expect the intern to have initiative, good interaction and cooperation skills, be systematic and flexible. We also expect a broad interest in the field of foreign affairs administration and the ability to quickly absorb new information. An interest in Africa and trade and development policy is an advantage.

A useful educational background for the successful completion of the internship may be, for example, in the fields of political or social sciences, law, economics or communications. A prerequisite for the successful completion of the assignment is excellent Finnish and good oral and written English skills. Other language skills are also an advantage.

Salary and financial support

The internship requires financial support from a higher education institution or another body approved by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. It is a good idea to include a certificate of the support granted as an attachment to the application, but the certificate must be submitted no later than before a possible interview. The financial support must be approximately 1,000 euros per month for a minimum of two months. Depending on the method of funding, the internship will be carried out either as a scholarship internship or as an employment contract internship.

A university intern with an employment contract is paid the minimum salary that meets the employment requirement of Kela. In 2026, the salary will be 1,463 euros per month.
