Intelligence Analyst – Sub-Saharan Africa

AKE is seeking a regional expert to join our London-based team delivering authoritative, timely risk analysis to clients in the media, financial, corporate, NGO and government sector. The successful candidate will join a team in producing clear, timely and measured analysis of political and strategic events in their region of focus, with a sound understanding of political, economic and security risks underpinning these.

Role description

The sub-Saharan African intelligence analyst will:

  • Draft, commission and edit regional and country updates for our flagship country risk platform Global Intake, updating country profiles and writing analytical briefings for Global Intake subscribers;
  • Appraise macroeconomic, political and credit risks for clients in the finance sector and present this information to clients verbally or in written reports;
  • Undertake security risk analysis to produce risk assessments for clients operating or deploying to hostile environments;
  • Develop and update political risk and credit models for clients in the insurance sector;
  • Lead delivery of AKE’s regular outputs, including kidnap and political violence reports;
  • Create and develop new intelligence projects for marketing and promotional purposes;
  • Represent AKE at external events;
  • Manage researchers and/or interns within the sub-Saharan Africa division.

Essential requirements

  • Demonstrable ability to analyse and interpret complex developments in the region;
  • A post-graduate degree in a relevant field such as international relations, area studies, political science or economics;
  • The ability to produce outputs and edit work to strict deadlines;
  • Strong communication skills and experience of briefing clients and public speaking.

Preferred requirements

  • At least 3 years experience of work focused on contemporary sub-Saharan Africa;
  • Experience of undertaking analysis within or for clients in the finance sector;
  • Experience in conducting research on South Africa and/or Nigeria;
  • A network of informants covering the region;
  • Fluency or proficiency in French (and/or Portuguese);

The successful applicant will report to the Director of Intelligence.

  • Level 3 award in Education & Training.
  • Experience of delivering, coordinating, maintaining and developing new training material

Preferred Requirements:

  • Previous experience of managing complex tasks and operational deployments in challenging and hostile environments.
  • Experience working with media, NGO’s, oil and gas, mining or insurance industries in a risk management capacity.
  • A working knowledge of the risk management process, including the information cycle.
  • Project management experience.
  • Degree in security related discipline
  • Working knowledge of ISO 27001 and 31000.

Operations Manager (part time)

AKE International is accepting applications for the position of Operations Manager (part time) based in London or Hereford to provide operational support and coordination of security, crisis response and consultancy services to clients globally.

  • 9am till 5pm office based (London/Hereford) during weekdays
  • Evenings and weekends on duty 24/7

  • Previous experience of managing complex task and operational deployments in challenging and hostile environments.
  • Experience working with media, oil and gas, mining or insurance industries in a risk management capacity
  • A working knowledge of the risk management process, including the information cycle.
  • Project management experience.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 27001 and 31000.
