International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a Housekeeper to provide efficient and orderly management of cleaning for the Director General’s residence.  

ILRI works to improve food security and nutrition, and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock.

It is the only one of 11 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, ILRI has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

Key Responsibilities

  • Keep all areas of the residence clean and tidy as per the laid down standards
  • Use and maintain all housekeeping equipment and tools in a safe, clean and working condition and report any damages and deficits
  • Empty, clean trash containers and dispose of wastes in designated areas in a sanitary manner
  • Tidy up rooms and make up beds such as changing linens
  • Monitor and replenish household supplies for instance in the bathrooms to maintain adequate levels
  • Perform laundry work including sorting, washing, ironing and storing appropriately
  • Observe rules and regulation to ensure own health and safety and that of the residents
  • Take care of pets by grooming, exercising, and/or feeding them
  • Observe precautions required to protect the house property, report damage or theft accordingly
  • Perform any other duties as may be required

Requirements

  • Certificate in housekeeping and laundry   
  • Three years relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and verbal
  • High sense of confidentiality
  • Skills in food production will be an added advantage
  • Experience working in a diplomatic residence will be a plus
  • Commitment to high standards of housekeeping whilst respecting the individual wishes of the residents

Position Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG7 and it is only open to Kenyan nationals. The position is a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurances.
