ILRI Hiring Cook

International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a cook to manage the operation and organization of the kitchen and all food-related activities, including the presentation and serving of food in the Director General’s residence.

ILRI works to improve food security and nutrition and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 11 CGIAR research centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and schedule recipes ensuring they are balanced and cover client preferences and taste
  • Prepare food and handle food in line with laid down standards to ensure hygienic standards are maintained
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers fryers, convection oven and refrigeration
  • Maintain kitchen equipment and tools and report any damages and faults for repair
  • Monitor inventory and replenish kitchen supplies to maintain adequate levels
  • Follow proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes
  • Assist as requested to wash dishes, recycling or cleaning the kitchen
  • Plan and maintain regular duties in proper sequence and laid down procedures and standards
  • Store everything properly and in order to ensure own healthy safety and that of the residents
  • Observe precautions required to protect the house property, report damage or theft accordingly
  • Perform any other duties as may be required

Requirements

  • Certificate in food production
  • Three years relevant experience
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and verbal
  • High sense of confidentiality
  • Housekeeping and laundry skills will be an added advantage.
  • Experience working in a diplomatic residence will be a plus

Position Location: Nairobi, Kenya

Terms of Appointment

This position is at job level HG8 and it is only open to Kenyan nationals. The position is a 3-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funding. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes pension, medical and other insurances.
