Job Overview

Responsible for overseeing the business operations of SHOWASCO. His/her role includes managing the day-to-day commercial activities, ensuring profitability, and maximizing return on investment (ROI). Will also support tariff review, Non-Revenue Water Management (NRW), develop and implement business processes.

Key Responsibilities / Duties/ Tasks

1. Strategy & Planning and Execution

  • Develop and refine the commercial strategy to boost water sales and map out future water distributions opportunities within Kibera and other SHOFCO sites.
  • Set specific sales targets, forecasts, and budgets to guide the water production team.
  • Identify and address emerging water sales opportunities and challenges within in Kibera and other sites.
  • Stay informed on local and wider context industry trends and leverage insights for strategic advantage.
  • Collaborate with water product teams to align production with or surpass water demands.

2. Sales & Business Development

  • Forge and nurture partnerships with local vendors, NWSC, hand card water distributors, and community water kiosks caretakes to enhance wider product reach.
  • Negotiate and finalize trucked sales agreements and partnerships to expand market presence.
  • Meet or exceed established water sales targets through diligent production and customer relationship management.

3. Marketing & Communications

  • Design and execute targeted marketing campaigns to elevate SHOFCO water awareness among Kibera residents.
  • Develop water marketing materials and craft compelling product messaging for various platforms.
  • Act as a brand ambassador at water stake-holders’ events, conferences, and in media engagements.
  • Collect and utilize customer feedback to inform better water product development and marketing strategies.

4. Operations & Team Management

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the water production team, ensuring efficiency and target achievement.
  • Recruit, train, and lead a bottled water sales team capable of delivering on the commercial objectives.
  • Implement and adhere to company policies, regulatory requirements, and quality standards.
  • Monitor and optimize inventory levels and supply chain logistics to support commercial activities.

5. Analytics & Reporting

  • Systematically track and analyze sales data to identify trends, areas for growth, and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Create detailed water sales forecasts and models to support strategic decision-making.
  • Regularly report on commercial performance to WASH head and stakeholders, highlighting successes and areas for improvement.

6. Finance

  • Oversee the financial health of the company operations, including budget management, cash flow, and financial planning.
  • Develop and manage pricing strategies to ensure profitability and competitive positioning.
  • Handle accounts receivable, invoicing, and collections to maintain healthy cash flow.
  • Collaborate with the SHOFCO finance department to identify cost-saving measures and profit optimization opportunities.

Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills).

Academic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related business field is required.

Professional Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in sales, business development, or similar roles, preferably within the water sector or related fields.
  • Proven negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit with a knack for devising innovative water sales strategies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, sales forecasting, and financial modeling.
  • Knowledge of water technologies and production processes is highly desirable.

Other required qualifications (unique/job specific

  • Past experience working in urban informal settlements is an asset
  • Ability to demonstrate basic skills of community engagement and mobilization into practice.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in a highly results oriented work culture
