The University of Nairobi is pleased to invite applications for the position of Project Manager under the ENGAGE Project. This exciting opportunity arises following funding awarded by TAKEDA Pharmaceuticals Global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to implement the project titled ENabling Girls in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Growing Expertise (ENGAGE) in Data Science. The ENGAGE Project will focus on creating a health-centric machine learning training program for young women in Kenya, enabling them to leverage data science to improve health outcomes in their communities. This project will be implemented in collaboration with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and several other Kenyan universities.
The position offers a dynamic and impactful opportunity to contribute to the advancement of data science and artificial intelligence education for women in Kenya.

Job Description
The Project Manager will report directly to the Principal Investigator or a delegated appointee. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the five-year project from inception through implementation, handover, and close-out. The individual will ensure the project meets the University’s standards, satisfies the needs of the beneficiaries, and fosters effective collaboration with project partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning
- Establish clear work plans, deliverables, and timelines for the project.
- Develop and maintain project management processes to ensure quality and compliance with donor requirements.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Management
- Build and manage collaborations with partnering regional universities.
- Facilitate effective stakeholder engagement, including coordinating workshops and meetings across the country.
- Project Execution and Oversight
- Oversee daily project implementation, ensuring activities are on schedule and within scope.
- Manage project resources effectively, including budgeting, cost controls, and financial projections in collaboration with the project accountant.
- Monitor team performance and optimize collaboration using project management tools.
- Donor and Partner Reporting
- Conduct regular reporting to the donor, ensuring alignment with contractual and financial compliance requirements.
- Capacity Building
- Plan and coordinate regional training workshops to build the capacity of female data scientists.
- Performance Tracking
- Ensure the project meets agreed-upon metrics for success, including the satisfaction of stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Terms of Appointment
This position is a one-year contract renewable based on performance and mutual agreement. The salary for the position is negotiable and will depend on the candidate’s level of education and work experience.
