We are currently inviting applications for the following academic position:
Position: Lecturer in History
Job Objective:
The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and conducting research in History. As part of their responsibilities, the lecturer will also be expected to contribute to the development of academic programmes, supervise student research, participate in departmental and university-wide committees, and engage in scholarly and community activities aligned with KCA University’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teaching and Learning:
Deliver lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, and other learning activities at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels as assigned by the Chair of the Department.
Facilitate an engaging and inclusive learning environment that encourages critical thinking, research, and active participation. - Assessment and Evaluation:
Participate in the preparation, administration, and marking of examinations, assignments, and continuous assessment tests.
Ensure timely and accurate record-keeping of student assessments and performance. - Curriculum Development:
Assist in the development and planning of a high-quality and relevant curriculum in History.
Participate in preparing learning materials, developing schemes of work, and ensuring alignment with academic standards. - Academic Advising and Support:
Provide students with academic guidance, feedback, and pastoral care to support their learning journey and career aspirations.
Refer students to appropriate university support services when necessary. - Research and Publications:
Engage in independent and collaborative research activities that contribute to the advancement of the History discipline.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at academic conferences.
Write and submit proposals for research grants and funding opportunities. - Supervision of Student Research:
Guide undergraduate and postgraduate students through their research projects, ensuring academic rigor and ethical compliance. - Interdisciplinary Collaboration:
Participate in faculty and departmental seminars to promote the sharing of research outcomes and foster interdisciplinary cooperation within and beyond the department. - University Service:
Serve on departmental, faculty, and university committees and contribute to strategic initiatives as required.
Attend faculty meetings and engage with colleagues to support the university’s academic mission. - Professional Development:
Participate in staff training and development activities to enhance teaching, research, and administrative skills.
Stay up-to-date with advances in the field of History and integrate new knowledge into teaching and research. - Administration and Records:
Maintain accurate records of student assessments, assignments, and examination results.
Ensure timely entry of student data into the university’s examination records management system. - Other Duties:
Perform any additional tasks as may be assigned by the department or university leadership in line with academic and institutional goals.
Qualifications and Experience (As Provided):
- PhD in History or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Master’s degree in History or a related field from a recognized university.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive and quality teaching experience at university level or equivalent experience in research or industry.
- At least two (2) high-quality publications in refereed academic journals.
- Registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).
