The Eastern Africa Legal Manager will be responsible providing high-quality, timely legal support to the business across the Eastern Africa Area (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Sudan, Somalia), primarily focusing on Logistics & Services (L&S) contracts. This role ensures legal compliance, mitigates risks, and safeguards Maersk’s interests while enabling business growth and customer success. This role will reports directly to the Eastern Africa Area Legal Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft, negotiate, and amend customer and supplier contracts relating to L&S services including transportation, trucking, freight forwarding, warehousing, depot and customs.
  • Proactively flag legal risks and provide commercially sound and pragmatic advice.
  • Ensure timely contract reviews and manage obligations throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders including commercial, procurement, and product teams.
  • Support contract governance and ensure consistency with Maersk policies and global legal standards.
  • Deliver training to internal stakeholders on legal principles and contracting best practices.
  • Support leadership in handling regional legal matters and contribute to global and regional initiatives.
  • Monitor relevant legal developments in the region and conduct legal research to inform business decisions.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB); Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Admitted to practice law in a jurisdiction within the Eastern Africa region.
  • Minimum of 6 years legal experience, preferably in an international organization or reputable law firm (or both).
  • Knowledge of international commercial law and regional legal frameworks.
  • Experience in the logistics, supply chain, or transport sectors is an advantage.
  • Strong negotiation skills, detail oriented and able to handle multiple demands at the same time.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills; high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in English
