Position Overview: Project Manager – Processing Solutions & Equipment

As a Project Manager at Tetra Pak, you will be entrusted with the critical responsibility of overseeing the execution of industrial projects—ensuring that they are completed on time, within scope, on budget, and with the highest levels of quality and safety. This role combines technical leadership, resource management, client relationship development, and operational execution.

The selected candidate will serve as the main point of contact between Tetra Pak, customers, subcontractors, and internal teams to deliver processing equipment and solutions that meet rigorous industry standards and customer expectations. The position is based in Nairobi but involves frequent travel—up to 50% of the time—across customer sites and project locations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful Project Manager will carry out the following duties:

1. Project Planning and Development

  • Design and implement detailed project plans that align with customer requirements and Tetra Pak’s strategic goals.
  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, and milestones in alignment with key stakeholders.
  • Identify resources and assign responsibilities across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and internal procedural guidelines throughout project planning and implementation.

2. Budget and Financial Management

  • Draft accurate project budgets and monitor expenditure to maintain financial integrity.
  • Recommend budget changes when necessary and ensure that any deviations are justified and documented.
  • Maintain cost efficiency while upholding quality and customer satisfaction.

3. Project Execution and Control

  • Supervise all phases of project implementation—from installation to commissioning—ensuring that all activities adhere to project timelines and standards.
  • Coordinate the efforts of cross-functional teams, subcontractors, and vendors to achieve targeted results.
  • Track project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques, ensuring milestone achievement and timely reporting.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, schedule, and costs using appropriate verification techniques.

4. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Maintain continuous and transparent communication with customers, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Set and manage realistic expectations with team members and clients throughout the life cycle of each project.
  • Prepare and deliver regular progress reports, proposals, and documentation for internal and external review.

5. Risk Management and Issue Resolution

  • Proactively identify project risks and devise mitigation strategies.
  • Resolve technical and managerial issues promptly and efficiently, providing alternative solutions when needed.
  • Lead recovery planning efforts in the event of delays or budget constraints, ensuring project continuity.

6. Leadership and Team Management

  • Coach, mentor, and supervise project team members to ensure alignment with goals and accountability for deliverables.
  • Cultivate a positive and productive working environment across internal and external teams.
  • Influence and inspire team members and subcontractors to maintain high-performance standards.
  • Promote safety, compliance, and sustainability in all project operations.

7. Continuous Improvement and Knowledge Sharing

  • Conduct post-project evaluations to identify areas for improvement.
  • Document lessons learned and share insights across the organization to foster innovation and best practices.
  • Develop and refine project execution tools and templates that enhance productivity and repeatable success.

Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • A degree in Engineering, Food Science, or a related technical field with strong project management experience.
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in managing technical projects within industrial plants, machinery, or manufacturing environments.
  • Proven expertise in handling installation and commissioning activities within processing or mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multidisciplinary teams across various geographies.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for this role.
  • Strong familiarity with project management standards such as PMI or PMP certification is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Planview, SAP, or similar project management software tools is an added advantage.
  • A sound understanding of occupational health and safety requirements is expected.
  • Capacity to build strong relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, and clients at all levels.
  • Ability to think critically, adapt to changing circumstances, and manage priorities under pressure.
  • Possession of a valid driving license and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time across various regions.
