The Aga Khan Academy Mombasa is an International Baccalaureate World School. It is the first in the network of Aga Khan Academies established by His Highness the Aga Khan.

We are looking for an experienced basketball coach to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, organizing, and delivering a comprehensive training program aimed at developing players’ skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. The coach will lead the team during practices, competitions, and tournaments while ensuring a positive, motivating, and safe environment for all athletes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITY

  • Develop and implement effective training plans that enhance players’ technical, tactical, and physical abilities.
  • Conduct regular practice sessions and skill drills.
  • Provide individualized feedback to support each player’s growth.
  • Foster teamwork, discipline, and a competitive but respectful team culture.
  • Prepare game strategies, line-ups, and plays tailored to the team’s strengths and opponents’ weaknesses.
  • Coordinate tournaments, including registration, scheduling, logistics, and communication with event organizers.
  • Organize friendly matches with other schools to enhance player experience and strengthen the school team’s competitiveness.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with other school teams, sports coordinators, and coaches to support inter-school collaborations.
  • Lead the team during games, making real-time decisions to improve performance.
  • Analyze game footage to guide future training sessions.
  • Coordinate with school/club management regarding team logistics, equipment, and schedules.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and sports regulations.
  • Serve as a role model in professionalism, sportsmanship, and discipline.

The requirements

  • Certified basketball coaching qualification.
  • Atleast 2 years’ experience in coaching basketball.
  • Proven experience coaching youth or competitive basketball teams.
  • Strong understanding of basketball rules, techniques, and strategy.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is an added advantage.
