The Swedish Embassy in Nairobi is looking for a locally employed administrative officer with a focus on economic and trade policy issues as well as trade promotion. The position is located at the embassy’s political and trade section and offers varied work in a dynamic environment. Apply by December 15, 2025.
The Embassy of Sweden in Nairobi represents Sweden in Kenya, Somalia, the Seychelles and the Comoros, as well as at the UN agencies in Nairobi. The mission includes political dialogue, trade and Sweden promotion, development cooperation, consular services and migration matters. Increased trade exchange has a high priority. The embassy has approximately 80 employees.
About the service
- Local employment at the Embassy’s Political and Trade Section
- Fixed-term employment for one year with possibility of extension
- Access: preferably February 2026
Job duties
- Reporting and gathering information on economic and trade policy developments in Kenya (some political reporting may occur)
- Business promotion and support for Swedish companies
- Represent the embassy at EU meetings and other external meetings
- Writing reports, articles and speeches
- Preparation and implementation of visits by Swedish representatives
- Administrative responsibility for bilateral memorandum of understanding on trade and investment
- Other tasks according to the embassy’s needs
Qualifications
- Fluent in Swedish and English, with very good written skills
- Academic degree with relevant specialization
- Very good analytical skills
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment and dealing with complex issues
- Good teamwork skills and good judgment
- Knowledge of and experience from Africa, especially Kenya, is an asset
- Preferably already residing in Kenya for practical reasons
Terms
Salary and other benefits according to the embassy’s regulations for local employees, which means local health insurance and no paid travel to/from Sweden. Approved registration check is a prerequisite for admission.
