Reporting directly to the Fleet Team Leader, the Fleet Artisan will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of the company’s vehicle fleet through expert diagnostics, maintenance, and repair.
Job Description
The Fleet Artisan is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing both electrical and mechanical components of vehicles within the company fleet. This includes working on a variety of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and commercial vehicles to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.
The role demands a high level of technical expertise, particularly in automotive electrical and electronic systems, as well as strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. The successful candidate will be expected to handle complex vehicle faults using advanced diagnostic tools and deliver timely, effective solutions that meet operational standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
The Fleet Artisan will be entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities within the fleet maintenance function. These include:
- Advanced Diagnostics and Repairs:
Identify, troubleshoot, and repair complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical faults in vehicles. This includes utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, scanners, and specialized software to accurately detect issues and implement effective solutions. - Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles to ensure they remain in optimal working condition. This includes inspecting key systems, replacing worn-out components, and ensuring compliance with safety standards. - Technical Troubleshooting:
Apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze vehicle performance issues. Perform systematic testing and evaluation to determine root causes and implement long-term fixes. - Use of Diagnostic Equipment:
Demonstrate mastery in handling advanced diagnostic equipment and electrical testing tools. Interpret diagnostic data accurately to guide repair decisions and improve efficiency. - Automotive Systems Expertise:
Maintain a strong understanding of modern automotive electrical and electronic systems, including engine management systems, sensors, wiring, and onboard diagnostics. - Fleet Experience:
Work on a variety of vehicle brands and models, including Mitsubishi, Isuzu, Scania, Mercedes Actros, and trailers. Ensure all repairs and maintenance activities meet manufacturer standards and company requirements. - Vehicle Testing:
Conduct test drives after repairs or maintenance to verify that issues have been resolved and that the vehicle is operating safely and efficiently. - Client Interaction and Feedback:
Communicate clearly with internal stakeholders regarding vehicle issues, repair progress, and solutions. Provide feedback on recurring faults and recommend preventive measures. - Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including diagnostic findings, parts used, and work completed. Ensure all documentation aligns with company policies and audit requirements. - Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental guidelines while performing duties. Ensure that all tools and equipment are used correctly and maintained in good condition.
Skills, Experience & Education
Qualifications:
- A minimum requirement of a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive).
Experience:
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in a fleet maintenance workshop.
- Experience working with Mercedes Actros and Scania trucks will be an added advantage.
