The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Nairobi is currently looking for a – Desk Clerk for Economic Cooperation – (male/female) starting from July 2026.

Your Tasks:

  • Project management and main contact for the portfolio “health and water/waster water” as well as the embassy’s small-project funds
  • Embassycontact of the volunteer’s program “Weltwärts”
  • Research, Analysis and Reporting on political economic and sector-specific developments in Kenya (e.g. climate/energy, rural development/agriculture, private sector development, TVET, migration, governance)
  • Close cooperation with developmental agencies, such as GIZ, KfW, DEG, German and Kenyan NGOs as well as multilateral organizations (UN, WB; AfdB, EU)
  • Preparation of and/or attendance at higher ranking conferences, diplomatic delegations, governmental consultations/negotiations
  • Official communication with Kenyan authorities and government
  • Direct assistance to the membersof the department for development cooperation at the embassy (e.g. Information gathering and presentation, preparation of welcome messages or short speeches, simple translations (Swahili))

Your Profile

  • Completed university degree (Ba./Ma.) in development studies or a related field
  • Familiarity with the Kenyan political and economic system as well as the development cooperation ecosystem in Kenya.
  • You are a team player with high intercultural competence.
  • You master MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • You have excellent organizational and management skills.
  • Prior work-experience in a development organization and/or in a diplomatic mis-sion is highly beneficial

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English and Swahili, both written and spoken
  • Very good command of German (Level B2)
