1. IT Officer
Organization: Biovision Africa Trust

Job Purpose
The IT Officer will support the implementation of ICT services across all BvAT offices. The role focuses on maintaining technology infrastructure, supporting staff with day-to-day ICT needs, implementing IT systems and strategies, and ensuring reliable operation of hardware, software, networks, and digital collaboration tools.
The position also includes responsibility for supporting communication-related digital tools, document design, website management, and vendor coordination.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
A) Hardware and Software Support
The IT Officer will be expected to ensure the effective functioning of ICT hardware and software across the organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing, operating, and maintaining office ICT hardware
- Providing technical advice on acquisition of hardware supplies
- Conducting routine repairs and replacement of hardware electronic components
- Supporting installation of commercial and internally developed software
- Managing software upgrades and antivirus programs
- Maintaining up-to-date software and hardware inventory records
B) Network Administration and ICT Infrastructure Support
The successful candidate will support the organization’s network systems and ensure smooth ICT operations.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring network connections daily to ensure stable performance
- Configuring printers and granting network access to users
- Troubleshooting network-related issues
- Supporting users experiencing network access challenges
- Coordinating with the icipe IT team on network maintenance
- Supporting Local Area Network (LAN) administration
- Supporting business continuity and disaster recovery processes
- Managing backup and restoration of server and local storage facilities
C) User Support and Helpdesk Services
The IT Officer will provide technical assistance to staff in both Nairobi and field offices.
This includes:
- Diagnosing hardware and software issues
- Supporting operating system and application troubleshooting
- Responding to staff ICT requests efficiently
- Prioritizing support requests based on urgency
- Coordinating support with icipe IT personnel where necessary
- Supporting ICT onboarding for new employees
- Assisting users with computer-related challenges across the organization
D) ICT Procurement and Asset Management
The role will also support procurement and management of ICT equipment.
Tasks include:
- Providing technical specifications for procurement of ICT equipment
- Advising on best technology options locally and internationally
- Reviewing quotations and vendor bids
- Maintaining ICT stock and spare parts inventory
- Supporting asset registration within the ERP Asset Module
- Supporting physical inventory verification exercises
- Preparing ICT inventory reports as required
E) Staff Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing
The IT Officer will support internal learning and digital adoption across BvAT.
Responsibilities include:
- Promoting effective use of systems and digital applications
- Supporting knowledge management and content-sharing systems
- Organizing staff training on ICT tools and systems
- Sharing ICT best practices and lessons learned across departments
F) ICT Strategy and Systems Implementation
The role contributes to implementation of BvAT’s broader ICT strategy.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting implementation of IT strategies and new technologies
- Providing input during review of internal ICT policies and procedures
- Drafting annual ICT work plans
- Supporting cloud-based ERP functionality
- Improving business processes through digital systems and automation
G) Communication, Branding and Digital Content Support
A unique aspect of this role includes supporting communication and digital content development.
Responsibilities include:
- Designing organizational documents and branded templates
- Developing reports, forms, presentations, and communication materials
- Supporting design of:
- banners
- brochures
- posters
- infographics
- newsletters
- event branding materials
- social media content
- Supporting multimedia communication activities
- Assisting during webinars and virtual events
- Supporting digital campaigns and online communication initiatives
H) Website and Digital Platform Support
The IT Officer will help support the organization’s online presence.
Responsibilities include:
- Supporting website design and updates
- Publishing website content
- Maintaining website functionality
- Coordinating with departments to ensure website information remains updated
- Supporting user experience and accessibility improvements
- Managing website hosting and related digital services
- Supporting domain services and email configurations
I) Vendor and Consultant Coordination
The position will work closely with external ICT service providers.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating with internet service providers
- Liaising with software vendors and consultants
- Supporting installation and maintenance of ICT infrastructure
- Monitoring vendor performance
- Following up on service requests
- Maintaining vendor agreements, warranties, licenses, and support documentation
- Providing technical input during ICT procurement evaluations

- Support for conferences, webinars, and virtual events
