The Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs is recruiting one hundred (100) Foreign Service Cadet / Third Secretary Cadets to join Kenya’s diplomatic service. The programme is designed to prepare future diplomats who will represent Kenya’s interests abroad while supporting the country’s foreign policy, international cooperation, and global engagement. Role Overview

The Foreign Service Cadet / Third Secretary Cadet will support the implementation of Kenya’s foreign policy by assisting in diplomatic, administrative, and policy-related functions. Successful candidates will work closely with experienced diplomats and government officials while developing the professional skills required for long-term careers in Kenya’s Foreign Service.

The position provides exposure to diplomatic missions, international organizations, regional cooperation, trade promotion, protocol management, and consular services.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates may be involved in the following duties:

  • Assisting in the implementation of Kenya’s foreign policy objectives.
  • Supporting diplomatic engagements with foreign governments and international organizations.
  • Conducting research on regional and international political, economic, and social developments.
  • Preparing reports, briefing notes, diplomatic correspondence, and policy papers.
  • Supporting bilateral and multilateral negotiations.
  • Coordinating official visits, meetings, and diplomatic events.
  • Assisting in organizing conferences, forums, and international engagements.
  • Providing administrative support to diplomatic missions and headquarters.
  • Supporting communication between Kenyan missions abroad and government institutions.
  • Monitoring international developments that may affect Kenya’s interests.
  • Promoting Kenya’s image and national interests in international forums.

Consular and Citizen Support

Foreign Service Cadets may also assist in providing consular services to Kenyan citizens abroad by:

  • Supporting consular assistance for Kenyan nationals.
  • Responding to public enquiries relating to consular services.
  • Assisting in processing official documentation where applicable.
  • Coordinating communication between citizens and relevant government agencies.
  • Supporting emergency response activities involving Kenyan citizens abroad.

International Relations and Economic Diplomacy

The position also contributes to strengthening Kenya’s international partnerships through:

  • Supporting initiatives that promote trade and investment.
  • Assisting in identifying opportunities for international cooperation.
  • Promoting tourism, cultural exchange, and economic partnerships.
  • Supporting engagement with development partners and international organizations.
  • Participating in activities that strengthen Kenya’s diplomatic and economic relations globally.

Research and Policy Support

The successful candidates will contribute to evidence-based decision-making by:

  • Collecting and analyzing information on international affairs.
