1. Maternity In-Charge
Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer
Job Purpose
The Maternity In-Charge will oversee all aspects of the Maternity Unit, ensuring the delivery of high-standard, evidence-based maternal and neonatal care aligned with Premier Hospital’s policies and values.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Patient Care
- Supervise maternity services including antenatal checkups, labor monitoring, deliveries, postpartum care, and newborn assessments.
- Monitor adherence to clinical protocols and infection prevention guidelines.
- Evaluate and ensure implementation of scientific and patient-specific care plans.
- Conduct patient rounds and manage high-risk cases with timely interventions.
- Maintain accurate, confidential patient documentation and effective shift handovers.
Staff Management & Development
- Lead, supervise, and mentor maternity staff including nurses and healthcare assistants.
- Approve monthly schedules and ensure proper staffing levels.
- Oversee staff onboarding, orientation, and protocol familiarization.
- Identify training needs and coordinate professional development.
Quality Assurance & Client Satisfaction
- Evaluate client satisfaction and manage complaints proactively.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and support compliance with hospital growth goals.
- Develop and implement maternity-specific SOPs, policies, and care pathways.
- Facilitate audits for maternal/perinatal morbidity and mortality and apply corrective actions.
Operational & Resource Management
- Monitor medical/non-medical inventory and ensure optimal resource utilization.
- Coordinate services with other departments to ensure seamless maternity care.
Communication & Collaboration
- Foster open communication among patients, families, and staff.
- Collaborate with specialists (obstetricians, pediatricians, anesthetists) and other departments.
- Participate in hospital committees and team meetings.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse/Midwife (KRCHN/M)
- Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery (added advantage)
- Valid Nursing Council license
- Mandatory certifications: BLS, ACLS, EMONC
- Minimum 5 years nursing experience (including 2 years in maternity and 1 year in supervision)
