Position and Duties
The incumbent will report to the Economic Advisor, Head of the Regional Economic Service (SER) in Nairobi, Mr. Mathieu Bruchon. He/she will be supervised by the Head of the SER and his/her deputy, also Financial Advisor, Mr. Paul Mainguet.
He/she will contribute to the management and writing of SER’s editorial productions, in particular weekly briefs, in coordination with the economic services of the zone and the other SER hubs. He/she will also contribute to the writing of thematic notes on the Kenyan economy. He/she will develop a network of contacts with the local ecosystem, in particular with the Kenyan administration.
He/she will participate in the SER’s external communications, via the LinkedIn and X accounts.
He/she may also be required to help organize official visits and events. He/she may be involved, occasionally and ad hoc, in other SER activities.
Profile and skills sought
Desired level of education: Bac +3 to +5 (economics, public or business administration, project management).
Desired level of experience: 1st professional experience desired, ideally in an Embassy or in an international institution.
Required skills:
• Knowledge: good knowledge of economics (economic policies and international institutions) and Kenyan politics.
• Know-how: ability to develop a network, analytical and synthesis skills, good command of IT tools (Excel, Word and Powerpoint);
• Soft skills: excellent interpersonal skills, responsiveness, flexibility, rigor, versatility, initiative and teamwork.
Languages: Good level of French (B2 minimum) and English (C1 minimum) required. Be able to express yourself orally and write in a structured and concise manner.
Employer
The Nairobi Regional Economic Service is an external service of the General Directorate of the Treasury, which falls under the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. It is located at the French Embassy in Kenya and Somalia and covers fifteen countries divided into three zones:
• East Africa: Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan
• Horn of Africa: Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Djibouti
• Indian Ocean Africa: Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles.
The SER’s activities are organized around three themes:
• Development of a benchmark macroeconomic and financial analysis
• Expertise, guidance and support for French companies in the region’s markets, in particular by mobilizing the financial tools of the DG Trésor
• Management of partners in the France team and SEs in the area.
