Main Purpose of the Job- (Job Summary
Ensure provision of high quality laboratory diagnostic services in the clinic/hospital as defined by Avenue Healthcare’s policies, protocols, procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintain all laboratory equipment in good working condition.
2. Timely and accurate billing of laboratory services.
3. Stock management:
a. Do daily/spot stock counts of lab supplies and report shortages to the Lab Superintendent.
b. Proper storage of lab supplies.
4. Ensure that Avenue corporate governance policies are adhered to.
a. Prevent, detect and report any fraud or criminal activity
b. Fully implement audit recommendations and attain satisfactory ratings in subsequent audits,
5. Perform daily Internal Quality Control procedures as defined by Avenue Group SOPs.
6. Follow laid down Lab Board approved rules for medical lab profession and adhere to Government and respective professional standards of care and treatment of patients.
7. Timely response to emergencies.
8. Carry out tests based on outlined SOPs & policies.
9. Record all sentinel incidents/events and report to the Laboratory Superintendent within 24 hours using the provided tools.
10. Record laboratory fridge temperature and ambient temperature and humidity twice daily and report any error to the Laboratory Superintendent.
11. Escalate any issue pertaining quality to the Laboratory Superintendent.
12. Infection control;
a. Maintain infection control standards when carrying out lab tests.
b. Observe proper disposal of medical waste
c. Equipment and other laboratory surfaces are properly disinfected with the right disinfectants
13. Observe and practice high quality of service through effective communication, prompt feedback and escalation of any unresolved issues to the Laboratory Superintendent.
14. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
15. Prevention of lab related errors by following the laid down policies and procedures on sample handling during pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of testing.
Person Specification
- Diploma in medical Laboratory science or any other related discipline. A degree in medical laboratory science is desirable.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant working experience.
- A valid practicing license from medical laboratory technicians and technologist board in Kenya
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail.
