ADRA Kenya seeks the services of a qualified, licensed, and experienced EIA specialist to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for three boreholes located in Nachuchukait, Naremieto, and Achumae villages in Turkana West Sub-County, Turkana County. The consultancy will assess potential environmental and social impacts associated with the proposed borehole projects and recommend mitigation measures to ensure sustainability and compliance with national environmental standards.

Job Description
The consultant will evaluate the environmental implications of drilling and operating boreholes in the targeted areas. The assessment will ensure that all project activities are environmentally sound and socially responsible, aligning with the requirements of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and other relevant frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments for the three proposed borehole sites in Nachuchukait, Naremieto, and Achumae villages.
  • Assess potential environmental, ecological, and social impacts that may arise before, during, and after project implementation.
  • Identify mitigation measures and management strategies to minimize negative impacts on the environment and local communities.
  • Develop a clear Environmental Management Plan (EMP) outlining preventive and corrective actions.
  • Propose alternatives that can enhance the project’s environmental sustainability.
  • Engage local communities, project stakeholders, and relevant authorities through participatory consultations.
  • Collect baseline environmental data for soil, vegetation, air, and water quality to establish reference points for monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) and NEMA guidelines.
  • Prepare and submit a comprehensive EIA report detailing findings, recommendations, and a proposed implementation plan.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of relevant environmental approvals and permits from NEMA and other statutory bodies.

The consultant will be required to ensure that all assessments are participatory, evidence-based, and aligned with both legal requirements and ADRA Kenya’s operational principles. The EIA process should provide actionable recommendations that promote environmental conservation, resource efficiency, and community wellbeing.
