NRT is a non-profit community conservancy membership organization whose mission is to develop resilient community conservancies that transform lives, secure peace, and conserve natural resources. The organization currently supports 47 community conservancies across 10 counties in Kenya, including Marsabit, Laikipia, Isiolo, Meru, Baringo, Samburu, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, and West Pokot, as well as northeastern Uganda.

1. Carbon Programme Director
Location: NRT Headquarters, Nanyuki

About the Role
Northern Rangelands Trust is recruiting a highly experienced and strategic professional to serve as Carbon Programme Director. This role will provide leadership and oversight for the Northern Kenya Rangelands Carbon Project (NKRCP), a large-scale community-led soil carbon initiative being implemented across 22 community conservancies in northern Kenya.
The project focuses on supporting:
- Rangeland restoration
- Biodiversity conservation
- Sustainable grazing management
- Climate resilience
- Long-term community livelihoods through carbon finance
- Landscape stewardship
The successful candidate will be expected to provide strategic, operational, technical, and stakeholder leadership to ensure the continued success of the programme while maintaining alignment with NRT’s conservation and community development priorities.

The Carbon Programme Director will help ensure that the project remains technically credible, financially accountable, socially legitimate, and compliant with both national and international carbon project requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
The role will involve responsibility for:
- Providing strategic leadership and oversight for project implementation across participating conservancies
- Coordinating compliance with carbon standards
- Overseeing monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) systems
- Supporting safeguards and verification processes
- Ensuring compliance with Kenya’s carbon market regulations
- Supporting governance structures across participating conservancies
- Leading Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) processes
- Supporting benefit-sharing arrangements and institutional transition frameworks
- Leading stakeholder engagement with communities, donors, government agencies, and technical partners
- Managing project accountability systems
- Overseeing financial management processes within the programme
- Managing operational and institutional risk
- Supporting grievance redress mechanisms
- Aligning carbon finance initiatives with biodiversity conservation goals
- Supporting sustainable rangeland restoration efforts

Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A postgraduate qualification in environmental management, climate change, natural resource management, governance, law, economics, business administration, sustainable development, social sciences, or a related field
- At least 10 years of progressive senior leadership experience in conservation, climate finance, community development, natural resource management, or large-scale programme management
- Demonstrated experience managing complex multi-stakeholder programmes involving communities, government, donors, technical partners, and private sector actors
- Experience in carbon projects, MRV, verification, FPIC, safeguards, benefit sharing, or climate finance will be an added advantage
- Experience working with community institutions, conservancy governance structures, customary leadership, and county or national government in northern Kenya

About the Role
Northern Rangelands Trust is also hiring a qualified and experienced Payables and Receivables Accountant to support its finance department through effective management of payables, receivables, cash flow, reconciliations, and grant-related financial reporting.
The role will support NRT’s broader financial accountability framework by ensuring timely and accurate financial transactions, maintaining compliance with donor requirements, and supporting financial reporting across NRT projects and operations.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring financial efficiency and accountability across the organization’s programmes.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Processing and verifying vendor invoices and payments
- Managing accounts receivable processes

- CPA qualification (minimum Section Four)
- At least 6 years of experience in accounts payable, receivables, reconciliations, and cash management
- Experience supporting donor-funded projects or grants management will be an added advantage
- Familiarity with accounting systems, ERP platforms, and financial reporting tools
- Registration with the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) will be an added advantage
