1. Program Officer – Medical Education, Simulation and Curriculum Development

Reporting to: Program Lead – PEP Project
Duty Station: CHAK Secretariat, Nairobi

Job Summary

The Program Officer will support the educational and implementation research agenda of the PEP MTCs program while also leading advocacy initiatives at the institutional level.

The role focuses on strengthening research systems, advancing innovative teaching approaches, and promoting greater investment in cardiometabolic disease education and research within CHAK Medical Training Colleges.

The successful candidate will work closely with faculty, students, institutional leadership, and strategic partners to strengthen curriculum delivery and educational innovation.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Education and Implementation Research Support

  • Support the design and implementation of cardiometabolic disease-focused educational research projects.
  • Assist faculty and students in participating in research activities across CHAK Medical Training Colleges.
  • Promote inclusive and gender-responsive research engagement.
  • Support documentation of research findings and lessons learned.
  • Contribute to dissemination of research outputs to influence teaching policy and national cardiometabolic disease strategies.

Advocacy at Medical Training College Level

  • Lead advocacy efforts aimed at adoption of innovative teaching approaches.
  • Promote digital learning, blended learning, and simulation-based education methods.
  • Encourage increased institutional investment in cardiometabolic disease education and research.
  • Engage institutional leadership, faculty teams, and students to build support for curriculum reform.

Capacity Building

  • Support delivery of training workshops for faculty and students.
  • Assist in organizing mentorship programs focused on research development.
  • Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions across institutions.
  • Strengthen evidence-based advocacy culture within CHAK Medical Training Colleges.

Collaboration and Networking

  • Work closely with CHAK partners including KMTC, KCCB, Amref, APHRC, and NCD Alliance Kenya.
  • Support alignment of advocacy and research priorities among partner institutions.
  • Strengthen collaboration between CHAK Medical Training Colleges to promote consistent adoption of innovative teaching practices.

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Monitor progress of research and advocacy interventions.
  • Prepare reports on program activities and outcomes.
  • Develop case studies and success stories for program documentation.
  • Support donor reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to institutional publications and communication outputs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Education, Research Methods, or a related field
  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in medical-related fields such as Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or Laboratory Science
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in education research, advocacy, or health systems strengthening
  • Familiarity with cardiometabolic diseases, non-communicable diseases, and workforce development challenges in Kenya
  • Experience in institutional advocacy and engagement with academic leadership

2. Head Chef

Reporting to: Guest House Manager
Duty Station: CHAK Guest House, Nairobi

Job Purpose

The Head Chef will be responsible for leading all kitchen operations at the CHAK Guest House.

The role involves menu planning, kitchen supervision, food quality management, food safety compliance, inventory control, staff leadership, and ensuring excellent guest dining experiences.

The position also supports achievement of financial performance targets through efficient food cost management.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Menu Creation and Development

  • Design and execute creative menu offerings
  • Plan menus based on guest preferences and operational needs
  • Ensure menu options align with facility cost margin guidelines
  • Introduce innovative food concepts and presentation styles

Kitchen Operations Management

  • Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations
  • Ensure efficient kitchen workflow and service delivery
  • Supervise food preparation, cooking, and presentation

Staff Management and Training

  • Supervise kitchen staff and guide daily operations

  • Manage food stock and kitchen supplies

Health and Safety Compliance

  • Ensure strict food hygiene practices are maintained

Guest Experience

  • Ensure food quality and presentation consistently meet guest expectations
  • Address guest feedback regarding meals and service
  • Respond promptly to concerns related to food quality

Collaboration and Strategic Support

  • Support development and implementation of strategies to meet Guest House financial goals

3. Cook

Reporting to: Kitchen Shift Leader / Head Cook
Duty Station: CHAK Guest House, Nairobi

Job Purpose

The Cook will be responsible for preparing quality meals across various sections of the kitchen while ensuring cleanliness, food hygiene, timely service, and excellent food presentation.

The role supports smooth kitchen operations and contributes to maintaining high service standards at the Guest House.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients in adequate quantity and quality before service begins
  • Ensure all meals are prepared hygienically and in accordance with food safety standards
  • Work closely with the Head Cook and Shift Leader to ensure efficient use of food supplies
  • Minimize food wastage through proper handling and portioning
  • Maintain food cost targets through efficient production planning
  • Present food attractively and creatively
  • Support buffet service operations and guest interaction
  • Ensure food stations are replenished on time
  • Maintain clean kitchen workspaces and surfaces
  • Assist in menu planning when assigned
  • Contribute to recipe development and meal variety improvement
