IGNIS Recruiting Enumerators

by KMax

IGNIS has announced a recruitment drive for Enumerators to support a national initiative focused on helping schools transition to cleaner, smarter cooking solutions. The organization is seeking motivated individuals to participate in a project that aims to contribute to Kenya’s clean energy agenda by promoting sustainable cooking technologies within educational institutions.

The exercise presents an opportunity for individuals with field data collection experience to participate in a meaningful project that will help generate valuable information for decision-making and implementation of clean cooking solutions. The selected Enumerators will play a crucial role in gathering accurate data from schools and stakeholders across various counties, supporting efforts to improve environmental sustainability and energy efficiency within the education sector.

A total of 15 Enumerator positions are available. Successful candidates will be deployed within specific counties where the project is being implemented.

About the Initiative

Kenya continues to make significant strides in promoting sustainable energy solutions that reduce environmental impact while improving efficiency and safety. One of the areas receiving increased attention is the adoption of clean cooking technologies, particularly in institutions such as schools where large-scale cooking activities take place daily.

Through this initiative, IGNIS seeks to gather critical information that will help schools transition from traditional cooking methods to cleaner and more efficient alternatives. Reliable field data is essential for understanding current practices, identifying challenges, and developing practical solutions that can support long-term sustainability goals.

Enumerators will be at the center of this process by collecting information directly from the field and ensuring that project teams have access to high-quality data for analysis and planning.

Counties of Deployment

The available positions are distributed across the following counties:

• Nairobi County

• Kiambu County

• Kajiado County

• Machakos County

• Makueni County

Applicants should note that they must be residents of the county for which they are applying. Local residency is considered important in supporting efficient field operations and ensuring familiarity with the local environment and institutions.

Position: Enumerator

The Enumerator role is a field-based assignment that requires individuals to interact with respondents, collect information, and submit data using approved digital tools. The position is suitable for candidates who enjoy working with communities, conducting surveys, and contributing to projects that generate valuable insights.

Enumerators will be expected to uphold professionalism, accuracy, and integrity throughout the data collection process. They will serve as representatives of the project while engaging with schools and other stakeholders.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to undertake a range of responsibilities related to field research and data collection, including:

• Conducting field visits within assigned locations.

• Collecting data from schools and other designated respondents.

• Administering surveys and questionnaires according to project guidelines.

• Capturing responses accurately using approved data collection methods.

• Using digital tools and mobile devices to record and submit information.

• Ensuring completeness and accuracy of all collected data.

• Verifying information before submission.

• Maintaining professional conduct during field assignments.

• Building positive relationships with respondents and stakeholders.

• Following established project procedures and timelines.

• Reporting progress and field observations when required.

• Supporting data quality assurance measures.

• Ensuring confidentiality of information collected during fieldwork.

• Assisting in achieving project targets within designated timelines.

Importance of the Enumerator Role

Enumerators are a critical component of any successful research or survey exercise. The information collected in the field forms the foundation upon which project decisions, policies, and interventions are developed.

For this particular initiative, the work of Enumerators will help provide a clearer understanding of cooking practices within schools and support efforts aimed at introducing cleaner, safer, and more sustainable cooking technologies.

Accurate data collection will contribute to evidence-based planning and implementation, making the role highly important to the success of the project.

Requirements

Applicants interested in the Enumerator positions should meet the following requirements:

• Diploma or Degree qualification.

• Experience in field data collection.

• Proficiency in the use of smartphones.

• Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Kiswahili.

Candidates who meet these requirements and have an interest in fieldwork are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

While not mandatory, candidates with the following experience may have an added advantage during the selection process:

• Experience using KoboToolbox.

• Experience conducting research activities.

• Experience conducting surveys and interviews.

• Familiarity with the education sector.

The organization is particularly interested in individuals who can effectively use digital data collection platforms and who understand the principles of quality field research.

Skills That May Support Success in the Role

Although the position primarily focuses on data collection, successful Enumerators often demonstrate several important professional qualities, including:

• Strong attention to detail.

• Good interpersonal and communication skills.

• Ability to follow instructions accurately.

• Professional conduct and integrity.

• Time management skills.

• Ability to work independently in field environments.

• Commitment to delivering accurate and reliable information.

These qualities can help Enumerators perform their responsibilities effectively and contribute positively to project outcomes.

Contribution to Kenya’s Clean Cooking Future

The project aligns with broader national efforts aimed at promoting clean energy adoption and reducing reliance on traditional cooking methods. Schools represent an important sector in this transition due to the large number of learners they serve and the significant energy requirements associated with institutional cooking.

By supporting data collection activities, Enumerators will contribute directly to efforts that seek to improve environmental sustainability, reduce emissions, enhance operational efficiency, and promote healthier cooking environments within educational institutions.

The initiative also demonstrates the growing role of research and data-driven decision-making in addressing environmental and development challenges across Kenya.
